Anthony Joseph has confirmed the latest transfer news involving Celtic heading into the summer window.

The Celtic squad is expected to undergo a transformation over the course of the summer transfer window. And it might be long overdue after how stagnant and uninspired they looked for most of the 25/26 season before coming to life late on.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for a number of these current players on the roster. But one's future seems to have been sorted.

It has been a long time since somebody made the jump from the academy and became a regular for Celtic at the senior level. Unfortunately, Stephen Welsh is not going to be the one to break the duck.

News had broken out earlier that Celtic and Welsh mutually agreed to part ways this summer. The academy graduate had also been allowed to terminate his contract a year early.

Now, according to Anthony Joseph, Swansea City are closing in on the signing of Welsh from Celtic.

He has agreed terms on a two-year contract, with the club having the option to extend the deal by a further year.

Welsh's Celtic contract will terminate on June 30 and he’s expected to join Swansea on July 1.

Welsh spent this season out on loan at Motherwell and actually did a very decent job as the Steelmen enjoyed one of their best campaigns in recent memory.

There was believed to have been interest in Welsh's signature from France and Poland as well. But it looks like he was chosen a move to Swansea City.

Welsh had broken into the Celtic first-team picture in the 20/21 campaign, when the club had been struggling and was actually one of the rare bright spots towards the end of that nightmare season for the Hoops.

Many had thought that he had a future as a starter for Celtic based on those early displays. But it might very well have been a matter of playing well in a bad team.

Since then, Welsh has never really been a regular starter for Celtic again. And by now, it had become pretty clear that he would be a squad player at best.

Even a good run of form did not get him a chance in the first-team picture. So, it feels like the time was right for both parties to part ways.

Celtic are expected to sign another centre-back this summer. As for Welsh, we can only wish the best at Swansea City.
