The summer transfer window just started this week and there is already some bad news for Celtic.

The summer transfer window in Scotland just kicked off this week. It has not been the best start for Celtic, as it looks like they are already set to lose out on one of their targets.

Goalkeeper is one position where Celtic must find a way to strengthen this summer. Kasper Schmeichel's contract was already set to run out, and due to a major injury, he has already announced his retirement from the game.

Viljami Sinisalo did a commendable job of stepping in and helping Celtic win the double. But is the long-term solution between the posts?

It is worth mentioning that Sinisalo conceded more goals than he should have, based on his xGOT.

One goalkeeper Celtic had been linked with lately is Jari De Busser, who is coming off an elite individual season with Go Ahead Eagles, in which he outperformed his xGOT by more than 10 goals.

De Busser could have been an excellent signing. Unfortunately, it looks like a move to Celtic is no longer on the cards.

According to The Herald, De Busser has opted to stay in the Netherlands. He has chosen to move to AZ Alkmaar instead for family reasons.

The clubs have agreed on the fee. De Busser will snub Celtic and other interested parties to stay in the Eredivisie.

This is not what the Celtic fans would have wanted to hear. At the very least, Celtic will need to bring in a goalkeeper this summer who is capable of competing with Sinisalo for that first-team spot between the posts.

It remains to be seen who they end up bringing in to take that spot in the squad. One can only hope that it is someone capable of making an impact from day one if the situation calls for it.

It has been a long time since Celtic have brought in someone capable of taking over the first-team gloves for the long term.

It has always been about a short-term fix. Joe Hart spent three years in the role and exceeded expectations. Schmeichel did well for a little while but never looked the same after that injury he picked up away on international duty.

Will Celtic go ahead and bring in a long-term goalkeeper this time around? Or will they go for the short-term fix once again? Or could they choose to trust Sinisalo with the spot altogether and bring in merely a cover option for him?
