One of Celtic's plans seems to have fallen apart as the official announcement has now been made.

It would be an understatement to say that Celtic fans are starting to get worried about the situation of the club once again. Some might say it is far too early for that. But considering the manner in which the coaching situation has been handled, there are genuine reasons for the scepticism.

Martin O'Neill has been appointed but the club have not found agreement on deals with his trusted coaches, Shaun Maloney and Mark Fotheringham.

On the other hand, it looks like Gavin Strachan is on his way to West Bromwich Albion. He has been with Celtic since 2020, so that will be a big change to adjust to as well.

Also, the Hoops have been handed another blow, as they look set to miss out on their rumoured coaching targets.

Efrain Juarez had been linked with Celtic before they had even brought in Wilfried Nancy. Those rumours cropped back up recently.

Reports in Mexico suggested that they wanted Juarez to become part of O'Neill's coaching team before taking over as manager in the future.

To be honest, that would have shown a bit of foresight on the club's part. But once again, that option is no longer on the table.

That is because Juarez will be heading to Hungary in what will be his first managerial job in Europe.

Hungarian champions Eto FC have officially announced the arrival of Juarez as the club's new head coach.

This move would give Juarez a chance to bolster his resume as a manager further and prove that he can succeed in Europe. And who knows, a move to Celtic might still be possible a few years down the line.

Let's not forget that O'Neill is 74 years of age. So, he is not going to be the long-term solution for Celtic. He has been given a one-year deal with the option for a further extension.

Initially, he was expected to step down after this season and potentially move into a behind-the-scenes role at Celtic.

So, it is hard to imagine that O'Neill will have too long a run at Celtic, no matter how well the Hoops do under him. And if Juarez is able to prove himself at Eto FC, it would not be a surprise if the Parkhead opportunity opens up for him a few years down the line.

For now, the focus has to be on the present. That means getting O'Neill's coaching team sorted as quickly as possible and also adding some genuine quality to the squad over the summer.
