Celtic appear to have made an offer to another coach amid the mystery surrounding Shaun Maloney and Mark Fotheringham.
The coaching situation at Celtic is starting to feel like a bit of a mess. While Martin O'Neill has been announced as the new permanent manager of the club, there is no sign of Shaun Maloney and Mark Fotheringham.
Both of them were key to Celtic's success last season. In fact, O'Neill even hinted that they played a significant role when it came to the tactical side of things, as the Northern Irishman had been away from the game for more than half a decade before his return as interim boss to replace Brendan Rodgers.
Naturally, Celtic fans are not happy with how the situation has been handled. The hope is that it is just a matter of ironing out the final details before Maloney and Fotheringham are brought back.
Some reports have even stated that they have been offered lower wages in order to continue. One would that the information is inaccurate. Otherwise, it would be very unfair after they helped salvage Celtic's season. If anything, they deserve more.
Now, new reports are emerging that the club have offered a coaching role to another former Celtic player, with the aim of him taking up the job permanently from O'Neill at some point in the future.
According to JuanFutbol, Efrain Juarez received a call to meet with the directors of Celtic.
During that meeting, Celtic presented him with a medium-term project. The proposal would involve returning to the club, initially joining the coaching staff as an assistant, with the goal of eventually becoming the head coach.
That is certainly a very interesting update. Juarez had a short and unsuccessful spell at Celtic during his playing days in the early 2010s.
He has shown a ton of promise since stepping into coaching though. And there are clearly fans of Juarez at Celtic.
In fact, he had been linked with the Celtic job last year as well before Wilfried Nancy was hired. So, it would not come as any surprise if there is substance to these rumours.
Celtic will know that O'Neill is not a long-term solution. At the end of the day, he is 74 years old. He has been handed a one-year deal with the option for another.
So, it would be smart on the part of the club to start getting ready for the future. In fact, the club would be showing some much-needed foresight if they start preparing for O'Neill's successor while he is still at the club.
