Martin O'Neill wants the player, but a Celtic return will happen this summer only on one condition.
Martin O'Neill's appointment as the permanent manager of Celtic has now been officially announced. The club should now focus on the next steps.
The backroom team's appointment has not been confirmed yet, which has left supporters worried. Some rumours have been doing the rounds online that they have been offered lower wages. The fans will be hoping that there is nothing to the speculation and that it is only a matter of ironing out the final details, as was the case with O'Neill.
On the transfer front, Celtic need to show some more pace as well. In the past, the board simply have allowed things to drag on for far too long.
That has allowed other clubs to swoop in or get the deals done. Or, it has resulted in bad results for Celtic in Champions League qualifiers, and subsequent failure to make the main round of the competition.
We saw both things happen in the previous summer transfer window. One can only hope that lessons have been learned and will be implemented this time around.
One player whom the club would be shrewd to bring back is Marcelo Saracchi. But there is a worrying update regarding that.
According to the Daily Record, O'Neill wants to sign Saracchi permanently. The Uruguayan international left-back is keen on a return to Glasgow as well. But Celtic chiefs have yet to open formal talks over a deal.
On the other hand, there is interest in signing him from MLS and Turkey. And Saracchi wants his future sorted out quickly. The left-back won't hang around on Celtic firming up their interest.
To be honest, that is a fair stance on the part of Saracchi. It is quite clear that Boca Juniors are ready to part ways with him. He can't pass up on other opportunities, just in the hope that Celtic will come in for him at some point.
In fact, it is believed that it might take a transfer fee lower than £2 million to get the deal done. So, there is no excuse for Celtic to not get this over the line.
Saracchi has proven himself in Celtic colours. In fact, some believe that he was better than Kieran Tierney.
Whether you believe that or not, it is very clear that he was an excellent backup option, which is what Celtic should always have for Tierney, considering his injury record.
So, Celtic simply need to move quickly and get this deal done as early as possible. If they miss out on Saracchi, it will be another one of those poor decisions that has brought the Hoops to this point.
