There are a number of Celtic players who could head for the exit door this summer. Of course, the fans will be hoping that the club are able to keep hold of their best performers.

Reality has often proven quite different when it comes to life at Celtic. Every summer, there is one big exit or another.

Last year, it was Nicolas Kuhn joining Como. The summer before that, Matt O'Riley headed to Brighton. In 2023, it was Jota who left for Al-Ittihad. That list will continue, no matter how far you choose to go back.

It is very likely that there will be at least one key exit this summer. That is likely to be Daizen Maeda, who has spent four-and-a-half years at Celtic already and might be looking for a change of scenery.

That does not mean that other key players could not leave. On the contrary, judging by the rumours, it looks like another big-money exit is starting to look very likely.

The player in question is none other than Arne Engels. The Belgian midfielder was on the receiving end of a £25 million bid in the winter.

Celtic showed restraint and turned that Scottish-record sum down. They might not be willing to do the same if a similar offer, or an even bigger one, arrives this summer.

And it looks like the interest in Engels is growing, with more clubs entering the race for his signature everyday.

According to TuttoMercatoWeb, Fulham and Sunderland have submitted inquiries, as have Nottingham Forest. Italian giants Napoli are said to be evaluating his situation as well.

That is quite the list of teams. And it is very possible that an even bigger offer could arrive at Celtic's table this summer.

Admittedly, Engels has not always gotten the credit that he deserves from Celtic fans. That is because his numbers do not always pop out of the stats sheet.

Engels does have an impact on the team though and increases their chances of winning by a significant margin.

Just look at the impact his return from injury had on Celtic towards the end of the campaign.

Celtic had been shaky throughout the season but they won eight games to finish off the season following Engels' return. And it resulted in a league and cup double.

Engels might not have contributed with a ton of goals or assists, but you cannot deny that he makes those around him better.

That is why so many top clubs are looking to sign him. And it is very likely that we might see him in a different team's jersey next season.
