The in-form French striker, who scored 22 goals last season, is open to joining Celtic this summer and the interest has been confirmed as genuine.
Signing a new striker has to be near the top of the Celtic transfer wishlist this summer. The Hoops struggled in front of goal all season.
The difference in form strikers can make became evident in the final few weeks of the season though.
Daizen Maeda was the single biggest reason behind Celtic getting over the finish line, as he was Henrik Larsson-esque in the last few weeks of the season.
Kelechi Iheanacho was not far behind, playing the role of an impact substitute perfectly. He scored multiple winners while coming off the bench, getting Celtic vital points in the process.
Maeda might leave this summer though. On the other hand, it is uncertain whether Iheanacho will continue either, as the option to extend his contract for a year has not been taken up so far, or at least not been made public.
On the other hand, Celtic are being linked with a few strikers already. And it looks like one of them might be open to the move.
According to CeltsAreHere, Elias Filet would be open to the idea of joining Celtic this summer.
Also, Celtic’s interest in the FC Aarau striker is genuine, although there is no suggestion at this point in time that a deal is close.
One mistake Celtic made last season was signing strikers who were out of form. The likes of Tomas Cvancara and Junior Adamu were struggling to impress before arriving. And that remained the case at Parkhead as well.
Filet scored 22 goals across all competitions last season. So, he is most certainly someone in form.
That being said, those goals came in the second division of Swiss football. It is very possible, perhaps even likely, that it won't convert at a club like Celtic, when he will be up against better defences and low blocks every week.
It remains to be seen if Celtic do end up making a move for Filet this summer or not. But it is great to see that at least the striker is open to the prospect of it. And to be honest, one would have always expected that to be the case as well.
That being said, fans will also be hoping to see Celtic make moves for strikers who are currently performing at the top level rather than always trying to find the next big thing in the lower divisions.
That is not to say that talent cannot be found there. Celtic had almost signed Ivan Toney when he was in League One, only to end up going for Albian Ajeti, then in the Premier League. We all know how their trajectories went.
