The 26-year-old Belgian player reportedly wants to join Celtic in this summer transfer window.
Celtic should be looking to bring in reinforcements in several positions across the pitch, even though they won the double to finish off the 25/26 season on a high note. They cannot allow that success to cloud their judgment on where this squad currently stands.
They were below par throughout the season. They managed 82 points, which is barely five more than what they could pick up in the nightmare 20/21 campaign.
Also, they scored 39 fewer times than the previous season while conceding 15 more goals. In fact, both Hearts and Motherwell had a better defensive record than Celtic.
So, Celtic need to strengthen all across the pitch. One of those positions is goalkeeper, even though it might often get overlooked.
Viljami Sinisalo did a good job stepping up to the plate and taking Kasper Schmeichel's spot. He certainly improved the Hoops. That being said, the numbers are not in his favour.
In the Premiership, Sinisalo faced a xGOT of 13.35 and conceded 15 times. So, he underperformed and conceded 1.65 more goals than he should have.
Sinisalo also had a 60.5% save percentage. That put him in the 30th percentile for goalkeepers in the Scottish Premiership.
So, it would not come as a surprise if Celtic try to bring in a new number 1 in goal. At the very least, they need someone capable of competing with Sinisalo.
According to Football Insider, Jari De Busser wants to move to Celtic in the coming months. Martin O'Neill will now make the final call on the move.
De Busser played in the Eredivisie last season. One could argue that it is much stronger than the Scottish Premiership and he was not playing for one of the traditional big teams. In fact, the Go Ahead Eagles finished 12th.
Individually, De Busser's numbers are excellent though. He faced an xGOT of 63.02 and conceded 53 times. So, he was directly involved in preventing 10 goals. That is extraordinary.
Also, De Busser had a save percentage of 73.8%, and he made more saves than any other goalkeeper in the Eredivisie.
Of course, many might point towards the lack of efficiency in his passing. But then, you have to remember that he plays for a mid-table team. A lot of the time, he might be just about lobbing the ball forward and trying to keep the opposition at bay. So, it might not be a fair reflection of his ability with the ball at his feet.
