It looks like Celtic have completed the signing of the highly-rated centre-back, who has already joined training.
Things are starting to look up a bit for Celtic over the last couple of days. The club recently agreed a new one-year deal with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. And he is not the only one to put pen to paper with the Hoops recently.
Of course, Celtic fans have been waiting for fresh faces to be added to the squad this summer. Clubs around them have been strengthening.
Celtic, on the other hand, have allowed things to drag on once again. Just like past windows, it looks like it is going to be a case of slow negotiations and multiple bids before signings are ultimately made.
In the background, the club have quietly gotten deals over the line, although they might not be involved in the first-team picture anytime soon.
Celtic complete signing of centre-back
According to 67 Hail Hail, Celtic have completed the signing of Shea McGarry. He is now training with the club’s B team.
The 16-year-old Northern Irish centre-back had been playing for Cliftonville at the senior level before this. He agreed his move to Celtic last month.
It remains to be seen how long it takes for McGarry to make the jump to senior level in Scotland.
It is quite likely that he would spend a few years at the B team level first, and then go out on loan, before ever getting a genuine chance at playing consistent first-team football for Celtic.
To be honest, the club have not been successful in providing a pathway into the senior team to their youngsters in recent times. It remains to be seen if that changes with Martin O'Neill now in charge.
Celtic need to sign a senior centre-back as well
It is great that Celtic have added a talented centre-back to their academy ranks. He can be a great addition in the long run.
The Hoops also need to think about the here and now though. That would mean signing a quality centre-back for its senior team.
Cameron Carter-Vickers is coming off another long-term injury. And he has had to go through quite a few of those in recent times.
Liam Scales and Auston Trusty spent the majority of the previous season as the starting duo at centre-back and deserve credit for the job they did. That being said, Celtic conceded 15 times more than in the 24/25 campaign.
So, there is clearly some room for improvement at the back. Let's hope the Hoops are able to add some 'ready-made' quality there.
