Anthony Joseph has confirmed some great news for Celtic as they look to strengthen their squad.
Celtic fans have been left frustrated once again, as the club have yet to complete any new signings this summer. But finally, things seem to be moving in a positive direction.
Last night, news broke out of almost nowhere that a one-year deal had been agreed with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. After his underwhelming spell in the second half of last season, many had expected he would be allowed to leave. But that is not the only piece of positive news to come out over the last 24 hours.
It looks like Celtic have made some progress when it comes to adding some fresh faces to the squad as well.
It is no secret that the club need to sign a striker, at the very least. And it looks like they are closing in on one.
Celtic hopeful of reaching deal to sign 24-year-old South American striker
According to Anthony Joseph, Qarabag are looking for a transfer fee of around £3 million for their forward Camilo Duran.
It’s understood that Celtic and Qarabag are hopeful of reaching a deal for the Colombian striker. Negotiations are ongoing.
Celtic have been linked with a move for Duran for a little while now. But those early whispers have turned into noise over the past 24 hours as it looks like the Hoops have solidified their interest.
To be very honest, with Qarabag looking for a £3 million transfer fee, there cannot be any excuse for Celtic to not get this deal over the line.
The bigger question should be about Duran and whether he would be the right signing for Celtic or not.
Would Camilo Duran be the right signing for Celtic?
Duran's biggest success last season was scoring five goals in the Champions League. They came against quality opposition as well.
Duran scored a brace against Eintracht Frankfurt. He also scored once each against teams like Ajax, Benfica and Newcastle United.
Duran's overall goalscoring record cannot be considered elite though. Overall, in 45 games for Qarabag, he has scored 15 times. Before that, he scored five times in 30 games for Portimonense.

So, it is hard to say for sure whether his form would translate to Celtic or not. But he has shown enough promise for the Hoops to make a move and hope that it works out.
It cannot be considered a premier striker signing though. If Daizen Maeda leaves, the Hoops will need to show a lot more ambition and bring in a replacement with a proven scoring record.
