Celtic have made the first move as they look to sign the Scottish international in this summer window.

Scotland kicked off their World Cup campaign with a 1-0 win over Haiti. Obviously, the eyes of fans across the globe will be on the tournament for the next month or so. That being said, clubs like Celtic cannot afford to sit still.

The Hoops will know they need to improve their roster after what was an underwhelming campaign by their high standards, even though it ended on a high note with a league and cup double.

The performance levels left a lot to be desired though. And with key players like Daizen Maeda, Reo Hatate, Arne Engels and more potentially leaving, the Hoops will need to bring in quality replacements.

One area that might be in urgent need of reinforcements this summer is the striker position. Celtic managed 39 fewer league goals this season. And their best option up top, Maeda, is highly likely to leave in this summer transfer window.

So, Celtic are expected to invest in signing at least one striker, if not more. Their sights seem to be set on someone they failed to bring in during the winter window.

According to L'Arena (via Daily Record), initial contact has now been made between Celtic and Hellas Verona. The Hoops are looking to potentially sign Kieron Bowie.

Bowie was on Celtic's radar in January as well. But he ended up leaving Hibernian for Hellas Verona in a £6 million transfer move.

Hellas Verona have now been relegated from Serie A though. They will be playing their football in the second division of Italian football from next season. And so, a move away from the club has become possible for Bowie after just six months there.

Now, it remains to be seen if Celtic are able to agree on a move for Bowie this summer, having missed out just some months back.

Bowie was in excellent form for Hibernian in the first half of the season as he scored eight goals in 22 games for Hibs.

That convinced Hellas Verona to sign him in the middle of the season. To be fair, he scored four times in 14 games for them as well, which is a respectable figure while playing for a team that ended up getting relegated from Serie A.

Now, it remains to be seen what the long-term future holds for Bowie. Will he continue in Italy, return to Scotland or head somewhere else this summer?
