The Celtic player has confirmed that he has undergone surgery and hopes to continue his career in football.
It would be safe to say that Celtic still have a lot of work to do in this summer transfer window. There have been plenty of positive signs lately, but it is now about getting deals over the line.
Kasper Hogh is set to be their second signing of the summer following the arrival of Camilo Duran earlier from Qarabag. So, two strikers have been added.
They need more quality all across the pitch though. In fact, Celtic seem to be advancing in talks to sign both Haissem Hassan and Dinko Horkas.
The search for midfield reinforcements goes on though. Players like Arne Engels, Callum McGregor, Reo Hatate and Benjamin Nygren have all been linked with moves away. Interestingly, Celtic have not signed a new midfielder yet. Will that change over the coming weeks?
Amid all this, one of their forgotten midfielders has made a decision that could alter the trajectory of his career.
Odin Thiago Holm undergoes surgery while away on loan from Celtic
When Celtic had signed Odin Thiago Holm from Valerenga, he was one of the most highly-rated talents in Norwegian football. Many even considered him the next Martin Odegaard.
It would be safe to say that things have not gone according to expectations since then. He appeared to lose the trust of Brendan Rodgers following a red card in the Champions League.
His loan spells have not exactly taken off either. A large part of that is down to a condition he has been dealing with. But fortunately, it looks like he has now undergone surgery in order to take control of the situation.
According to The Celtic Way, Holm has had surgery on his calves to treat a rare condition. He suffers from something called Compartment syndrome, where swelling causes increased pressure within the muscles and can reduce blood flow.
Holm provides update on his situation
Holm has a positive update on his situation since undergoing surgery though. He said:
"I finally got it operated on and it feels really good.
"I'm a little more optimistic after talking to some people who have been through the same thing and got better.
"So I'll just keep my fingers crossed.
"An operation was talked about for a long time, but Celtic wanted to go in a more conservative direction without it having any effect, so it ended up with surgery.
"It's good to come to a place where they have understanding and knowledge of the damage, so we can get it sorted out.
"I haven't played that much football, so I've learned how to get through tough times. That's an extra part of my experience too.
"I think I have a future playing football. As long as my legs are okay now, there's nothing holding me back."
Holm is currently back on loan at Valerenga. Let's hope that this operation helps him get back to his best and he can start delivering on the promise he had shown early in his career, before things got derailed.
Holm has played just 536 minutes of football since the summer of 2023. Naturally, questions have arisen about his future in the game.
Holm still has time left on his contract at Celtic though. And could he still have a future at Parkhead? That might depend on how his time at Valerenga goes.
