It looks like Celtic have intensified talks to sign the goalkeeper after agreeing a deal for Kasper Hogh.
Better late than never. That is what Celtic fans will be telling themselves after the club's activity in recent days in the transfer market.
A club-record deal has been agreed to sign Kasper Hogh. The Bodo/Glimt striker, who had a standout Champions League campaign last season, has already arrived in the UK to complete his medical before officially completing a move to Celtic.
There have been suggestions that Celtic are close to reaching a breakthrough in a deal to sign Haissem Hassan from Real Oviedo as well. He was a standout for Egypt at the World Cup.
Now, a third transfer signing might not be far away either. It looks like Celtic are pushing to complete the deal for a goalkeeper next.
Celtic intensify talks to sign goalkeeper
According to La Provincia, the emergence of a Saudi club in the race for Dinko Horkas has led Celtic to accelerate their efforts to try and finalise a deal that UD Las Palmas is already negotiating in Marbella.
Until now, Celtic had been the most active in their pursuit of the Croatian goalkeeper. The Scottish champions consider Horkas one of their top priorities and have intensified talks after learning of the emergence of a new competitor.
It is far from a done deal though. On the contrary, it looks like it is now very much a two-way for the goalkeeper as a result of Celtic allowing things to drag on, as they have often done in the past and paid the price for.
Celtic are now accelerating to gain the upper hand. At the same time, a Saudi club has entered the fray with enough financial resources to change the course of the deal.
Who is Dinko Horkas and would he be a good signing for Celtic?
To be honest, Horkas is not a household name by any means. Most Celtic fans would have heard about him for the first time this summer. But that does not mean that he is not a quality goalkeeper.
Horkas spent the previous season playing La Liga 2 football. And he was one of the standouts at that level.
Horkas outperformed his xGOT by more than four goals. He also had a 72.1% save percentage.
At the same time, he is good with the ball at his feet. No goalkeeper made more passes than Horkas and he was in the 91st percentile for chances created as well. The Croatian was also in the 95th percentile for acting as a sweeper.
If you want to talk about the limitations of Horkas' game, he was in the 54th percentile for high claims. So, he might not be the most commanding presence in the box despite his size. Also, he made two errors leading to goals.
