The Celtic player had found some form recently but his season is now over as he requires knee surgery.
Injuries have been a problem for Celtic all season. Quite a few of their players have had to undergo surgery in this campaign, missing out on a significant portion of it as a result.
That has clearly had an impact on the season that Celtic have had. Somehow, Martin O'Neill's side remain in contention for a double.
After beating the Rangers at the weekend, they cannot take any kind of mental break because up next might be an even tougher test. Celtic will be taking on Motherwell away from home, arguably the best footballing team in Scottish football this season.
But moving away from that for a while and coming back to the club's injury problems, it is not just those at Celtic who have been affected. Those away on loan have not had much better luck either.
Johnny Kenny is currently away on loan at Bolton Wanderers and he has actually done very well for the League One side, raising questions about whether the Hoops made the right choice to let him leave.
Kenny went on a five-game goalscoring run to help Bolton finish in the League One playoff qualification spots. But unfortunately, he won't be available to take part in them.
According to a report in The Herald, Kenny's Bolton Wanderers season is over as he requires knee surgery.
Kenny certainly made the most of the opportunity that he was given and enhanced his reputation. Now, it remains to be seen what the future holds for him.
A lot will depend on how long it takes for him to recover and return to the pitch. Also, do Celtic plan to keep him at the club next season and compete for a first-team spot or do they want to send him out on loan again or perhaps even find him a new home permanently?
Kenny's form for Bolton suggests that he is good enough to be playing at least at the Championship level, if Celtic do go the loan or permanent exit route.
If Celtic believe that he has now shown enough to receive a bigger role in the first-team picture moving forward, then it will be very interesting to see who he ends up competing with next season.
Daizen Maeda has found his best form again but is widely expected to leave this summer after spending more than four years at Celtic. Kelechi Iheancho's future is up in the air as well. Tomas Cvancara and Junior Adamu are expected to return to their parent clubs. Callum Osmand has just returned from a long-term injury of his own.
