Celtic have been handed a chance to bring back one of their former players as Fabrizio Romano has confirmed he will become a free agent.

Celtic should be looking to strengthen their centre-back options in the summer. Liam Scales and Auston Trusty are the two starters there, but many believe there is a scope for improvement.

Cameron Carter-Vickers is out injured with another serious injury. One has to wonder whether he will be the same player when he returns. The American has a long history of injuries. Over time, his performance levels have dipped for sure, compared to his debut campaign with the Hoops.

Benjamin Arthur, on loan, has done well when given a chance but they have been few and far between. He is expected to return to his parent club, Brentford, at the end of the season.

So, Celtic should be keeping an eye out on centre-back options. Preferably right-footed ones as well. That would make it easier to build out from the back as both Scales and Trusty are left-footed.

An interesting option might have just cropped up for Celtic. And it is definitely worth considering.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Jack Hendry will be leaving Al-Ettifaq as a free agent this summer.

Many Celtic fans might not like the idea of bringing back Hendry. He was nothing special for the Hoops during his time at Parkhead. But he might very well have been one of those players that the club underutilised.

Some of his numbers for Al-Ettifaq have been very impressive, and might suit what Celtic need at this point in time.

Hendry is in the 89th percentile for successful passes, and he completes them at a 90.6% success rate as well. He is in the 81st percentile for accurate long balls and 88th percentile for successful crosses. The Scotsman is very comfortable with the ball at his feet, which is what Celtic need in a centre-back.

On the other hand, he has won more than 73% of his aerial duels, which put him in the 96th percentile. Celtic's shaky defence could do with that sort of prowess in the air. He is also in the 96th percentile for blocked shots and 83rd percentile for recoveries.

Hendry has been starting regularly for Al-Ettifaq. Just think of all the quality players who have gone and failed to establish themselves in the Saudi Pro League. So, he certainly deserves his fair share of credit.

At the international level, he has won 37 caps for Scotland as well. That is impressive for someone who made just 27 appearances over three years at Celtic.

Of course, just because it did not work out back then for Hendry at Celtic does not mean that he would fail again, especially after the experience he has picked up since leaving Parkhead.

We are not saying he would walk into the starting XI. But for someone who is available for free, Celtic could do a lot worse.
