David Ornstein was asked about Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna's future amid linked with Celtic.

Who will be the next manager of Celtic when Martin O'Neill steps down at the end of the season? That is a question most fans are hoping to find the answer to as soon as possible.

The managerial appointment will have a major impact on the direction of the club, that is for sure. As things stand, Celtic are in a kind of no man's land.

The squad needs a revamp, but without a manager in place, it is hard to determine what kind of players to sign. So, that must be the first thing that is sorted in the summer.

Celtic have been linked with a variety of managers in recent times. That includes Robbie Keane, Craig Bellamy and Jens Berthel Askou, as well as those who will be at the World Cup like Roberto Martinez and even Steve Clarke.

Another name that had been heavily linked with the Celtic job, before they appointed Wilfried Nancy, was Kieran McKenna of Ipswich Town.

McKenna has been with Ipswich Town since 2021 and has done an incredible job. He took them up from League One to the Premier League, got relegated, and looks set to earn them promotion to the English top flight again.

So, could Celtic try to bring him in the summer once again? It remains to be seen. But according to one of the most reliable sources in football today, he is more likely to be in the Premier League come next season.

During a Q&A session for The Athletic, David Ornstein was asked about the future of McKenna amid interest from Celtic and whether he could see him head up to Glasgow. The journalist said: "Given Ipswich's trajectory and the interest from other PL clubs, I'd imagine he'll be in the English top flight next season."

Someone like McKenna would be a very good appointment for Celtic. He has proven over his time at Ipswich Town that his success with them is no fluke. He has been successful consistently. And while he was not able to keep them in the Premier League, that is extremely difficult to do for a newly-promoted side.

If McKenna did become Celtic manager, he would probably get a lot of this team. He has already proven that he can win things. Also, Ipswich Town are the third-highest scoring team in the Championship this season while having the best defensive record.

Of course, after Ornstein's comments, it looks unlikely that McKenna will end up at Celtic and the club should turn their eyes elsewhere, if they had indeed been tracking the Ipswich Town manager.
