The Celtic return rumours have cropped up after the player's recent social media activity.

Celtic did not have a strong enough squad last summer. So, they need to bring in fresh faces in this transfer window. But at the same time, they might need to bring back some familiar ones as well.

Defence is one area where Celtic seem to be looking to looking to improve at the moment.

There has been speculation about offers being made for Zinedin Smajlovic. Polish centre-back Oskar Wojcik has been linked with a move as well, after there had been reports that the Hoops had made a failed bid in the winter.

Amid all this, speculation has now cropped up about a potential centre-back return. And it is someone who did not play enough football last season.

Celtic Return On After Social Media Post?

Benjamin Arthur recently posted pictures of himself training in Celtic gear during the off season.

Incidentally, it is worth mentioning that Arthur has never posted a formal farewell message to Celtic.

His loan spell from Brentford ended this summer, after he was brought in last winter. But could he potentially make a return to Parkhead?

There had been some speculation earlier about a season-long loan spell this time around.

A lot of Celtic fans did seem impressed with Arthur's quality when he did play. But the issue was that he simply did not get enough chances to showcase his ability.

Perhaps with a full pre-season under his belt, Martin O'Neill would be more open to trusting him in big game situations rather than going for the tried and tested?

Would Arthur be the Right Signing?

It is important to point out that at this moment, this is mere speculation that has cropped up on social media because of a post from the player himself. It is quite possible that this leads nowhere of note.

But if there is indeed interest in bringing back Arthur for another spell, it might make sense for Celtic.

We have already seen that Arthur does have the quality to deal with Scottish opposition. With a bit more experience, he might be good enough to start games consistently.

At Brentford, he was barely playing anyway. And if it goes well, it has the potential to be turned into a permanent deal in the future, just like what happened with Cameron Carter-Vickers after a successful season on loan from Tottenham Hotspur.

For now though, that would be thinking too far ahead. First, let's see whether Celtic are genuinely interested in Arthur or not.

It is entirely possible that they might want a more experienced defender to come straight into the starting XI rather than hoping for a youngster to develop into a starter.
