It has been an eventful day when it comes to the Celtic goalkeeping picture. Firstly, Kasper Schmeichel has announced his retirement from the game. We would like to wish him the best as he steps away from his playing career and are eager to see what he has planned next.

Yesterday, we also covered the reports about Celtic being interested in a move for Belgian goalkeeper Jari De Busser.

He was the number one between the posts for the Go Ahead Eagles this season and has put up some impressive numbers, and probably would be a starter ahead of Viljami Sinisalo if signed.

Now, that move for De Busser might have already moved on step closer. That is because the Go Ahead Eagles have already announced the arrival of Kjetil Haug.

Haug was playing for Ligue 1 side Toulouse last season. So, it is hard to imagine that he would be joining Go Ahead Eagles without assurances over his game time.

That might be pointing towards De Busser being on the way out this summer after an excellent campaign between the posts for the Go Ahead Eagles. Of course, that is good news for Celtic.

Someone like De Busser could be an excellent signing for Celtic. He is 26 years of age, so after a long time, the club might be bringing in a long-term solution in goal. But there is a lot more to it than that.

De Busser proved himself as an elite shot-stopper last season. He faced an xGOT of 63.02 in the Eredivisie and conceded only 53 times. So, in simpler terms, he prevented 10 goals.

That is fantastic and even the best goalkeepers on the planet cannot claim that. Gianluigi Donnarumma prevented 5.7. David Raya actually gave away 1.66 more than he should have, which is a fascinating stat. Jordan Pickford stopped 2.64.

So, that just goes to show how good Du Busser was when it came to his shot-stopping. Just that should be enough to convince Celtic. On top of it, he made the most saves in the Eredivisie as well. And he is commanding in the box.

So, if Celtic want someone who excels at preventing goals, De Busser would be an excellent choice. Of course, you can never predict how a player will adapt to a different league and environment, but on paper, he has everything needed in that aspect of the game.

Where he might be lacking a bit is in his ability with the ball at his feet. But even though he might not excel in that department, he is more than decent enough.
