Celtic are planning to accelerate a move to sign the World Cup standout in this summer transfer window.
Celtic's recruitment will need to be a lot better when it comes to this summer window. In the recent past, we have seen them bring in a lot of players who simply have not been able to impress and have had to be moved on at a transfer loss just a year or two down the line.
A perfect example of a signing that has not worked out is the £5 million addition of Michel-Ange Balikwisha. While he had been a solid performer in Belgium, it simply has not worked out for the winger in Scotland and after making only a handful of appearances, he was frozen out of first-team plans.
One way to ensure that the players do not have a tough time adjusting to the Premiership is by signing those who are already proven in the Scottish top league.
That would mean signing top players from other Scottish Premiership teams, something Celtic have not been able to do very often in recent times, despite being linked with a few, as they have often preferred to head to other European leagues instead.
One Premiership player has been immensely impressive at the ongoing World Cup is Motherwell's Elijah Just. He has been linked with the Hoops for quite some time now, but the eyes of the globe are now on him.
If Celtic want to sign him, they might need to move quickly. Other clubs are surely going to be keeping an eye on him after the events of this week.
According to Football Insider, Celtic are planning to accelerate their interest in signing Just after his performance at the World Cup.
The performance in question came in New Zealand's 2-2 draw against Iran. Just scored a brace in that game.
Nobody expected much from New Zealand in this competition. But the Kiwis have already exceeded expectations in the eyes of many.
Individually, Just has announced himself at the international level with the eyes of the world watching. This will only increase his transfer value this summer.
It remains to be seen if Celtic are able to get a deal done for Just or not. He would be a solid addition for a team that is not the strongest right now when it comes to their options on the flanks.
But if recent history of top Premiership talents leaving Scotland is anything to go by, it would not be a surprise to see Just end up in one of the top five European leagues after the World Cup.
