Celtic failed to sign Kelechi Iheanacho and have now turned their attention to a £7 million-rated Champions League striker.

Celtic's need for more options up top should not be a secret. That rings especially true after the club failed to bring back Kelechi Iheanacho after his solid spell last season.

Ihenacho might have had his fitness issues but he proved himself to be a fantastic option to bring off the bench, and end up deciding games late on with his goals.

It had looked like Celtic would manage to sign the Nigerian striker. There had been suggestions that he was keen to continue as well. And it was seen as vital, as Daizen Maeda is expected to depart this summer.

Unfortunately, in what can only be called a twist, Iheanacho had ended up not signing a new deal with Celtic and chosen to move to Turkey instead. That has left the Hoops' options paper-thin up top.

Celtic want to sign Champions League striker after failing to keep Iheanacho

It would have been ideal if Celtic had been able to convince Iheanacho to stay. But it appears that they might not have shown enough ambition in talks with the striker, who chose a move to Turkey instead.

Of course, the fans are not happy. They already had their frustrations with the board and they have grown following this Iheanacho mistake.

So, the club have quite the task on their hands, trying to get the fans back on their side. The largely empty Parkhead for the game against Middlesbrough was not a good look at all.

According to The Scottish Sun, Celtic have revived their interest in Bodo/Glimt striker Kasper Hogh. They had already tried to make something happen in January but could not.

Hogh is back on Martin O’Neill’s radar as he seeks fresh options up top ahead of the new campaign. Bodo/Glimt are now expected to want in excess of £7 million for him.

Why Kasper Hogh would be a good signing

It is safe to say that Hogh enjoyed a fantastic season in the Champions League last time around as his Bodo/Glimt side had a historic run in the competition for a Norwegian team.

Hogh showed that he is capable of scoring against the biggest teams in world football.

Celtic have already signed one striker on the basis of his Champions League displays this summer in the form of Camilo Duran.

Duran has looked like a bright spot in pre-season, scoring in both his appearances. Could Celtic look to repeat the trick with Hogh?
