It appears that Celtic want to sign the £10 million-rated Scottish international and are monitoring his situation.

No matter how this season ends for Celtic, the upcoming summer transfer window is a very important one for the club. The squad is nowhere near good enough. That has been apparent for a long time now, as Martin O'Neill's side have been barely digging out narrow wins for months.

Reinforcements are needed all across the pitch. And not just signings to make up the numbers. Celtic need ready-made quality. Players who can come in and immediately establish themselves as starters.

Centre-back is one position where Celtic could do with another quality option. Benjamin Arthur is expected to leave in the summer when his loan spell expires.

On the other hand, not everybody is convinced by Liam Scales as a Celtic starter, even though he has held that role for three years now.

Then there is Cameron Carter-Vickers. On paper, he is Celtic's best centre-back. But after the number of injuries he has dealt with over the past few years, one can only wonder if he will return the same player when he does eventually take the field again.

So, Celtic could do with another centre-back capable of challenging for a starting spot in the heart of defence. And it looks like a Scottish international is on their radar. It is not the first time the Hoops have been linked with him either.

As reported by The Celtic Way, the Hoops are among the clubs monitoring Scott McKenna, according to reports in Croatia. Dinamo Zagreb chiefs stated last month there was serious interest in the Scottish international centre-back with a £10 million fee being mentioned.

It is hard to imagine that Celtic will make a £10 million move for a 29-year-old centre-back. We just can't see it happening, even in times when the club are desperate for some proven quality.

Of course, McKenna knows the Scottish league very well. He came through the youth ranks at Aberdeen and made more than 100 appearances for the club.

He has proven himself at other places as well though. McKenna also played more than 100 times for Nottingham Forest. And he is currently a regular starter for Dinamo Zagreb, who he joined just last summer.

At the international level, McKenna has a decent bit of experience under his belt as well, having appeared 48 times for Scotland.

So, it is not hard to understand why Celtic might be keeping an eye on him. But unless that £10 million transfer valuation drops, any move looks unlikely. Dinamo Zagreb did get him on a free transfer.
