Celtic seem to have the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder on their radar, as Martin O'Neill is believed to have been watching him.

Fans will be hoping to see Celtic improve their squad all across the pitch in the summer transfer window. There is not one department that is shining through at the moment with its performance. This roster needs a shake up.

Celtic perhaps have the most quality in midfield right now. Callum McGregor is the club captain and will probably end his career as the most decorated player in club history. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is the most high-profile name they have got, having played more than a decade at Arsenal and Liverpool. Reo Hatate is quality on his day. Benjamin Nygren's goal contributions have kept the Hoops in this title race. Arne Engels' return will hopefully give this team the boost that they need. Luke McCowan and Paulo Bernardo are rotational options, but can start occasionally.

Despite this, it has not felt like the Celtic midfield is taking control of games right now. Yes, on paper, they have quality. But on the pitch, we are not seeing that as often as we should.

Quite a few of those players could be headed for the exit door in the summer as well. Hatate has been linked with an exit for months and is not starting at the moment. Oxlade-Chamberlain has not done enough to be handed an extension. Bernardo might not be keen to stick around after how little football he has been afforded. Even Nygren seems to be drawing interest after strong performances at both club and international levels.

On the other hand, it looks like a Tottenham Hotspur midfielder is now on the radar of Celtic.

Not too long ago, Martin O'Neill was spotted at the Preston North End vs QPR game in the English Championship. Most wondered if it was a scouting trip, and if so, which player he was keeping an eye on. Now, there seems to be an update on that situation.

According to Pete O'Rourke, sources have told Football Insider that Alfie Devine was the focus of attention from the Celtic manager as he was spotted in attendance at Preston vs QPR. The Tottenham loanee is believed to be a target for the Hoops.

We had heard speculation about Celtic's interest in Devine earlier and reported on it. Now, it looks like there is indeed something to the rumours.

Devine has spent the season on loan at Preston North End from Tottenham Hotspur and he has enjoyed a solid campaign for the Championship side.

He has scored eight goals and provided five assists while playing all across midfielder, as a number 10, a number 8 and even a defensive midfielder.

Now 21 years of age, it might be time for Devine to start thinking about his long-term future in football. And with chances of getting playing time at Tottenham Hotspur slim, a permanent exit in the summer or another loan stint away, might be worth considering.
