Centre-back is one area where Celtic need to be looking to strengthen this summer. Liam Scales and Auston Trusty were the starting duo in the heart of defence for the majority of the campaign, with Cameron Carter-Vickers spending several months out with a long-term injury.

While Trusty and Scales did a very decent job, especially towards the end of the campaign, that feels like a combination that might not work at the highest level.

Both of them are left-footed, which hurts the buildup play from the back and sometimes puts the right centre-back in awkward positions when defending quick opposition transitions.

We have seen Celtic concede from such situations in the past, especially at the European level.

So, it should come as no surprise that Celtic are being linked with a centre-back. It is none other than George Campbell of West Bromwich Albion.

According to Express & Star, Campbell is on the radar of Celtic following a successful first season in English football.

West Bromwich Albion barely escaped relegation from the Championship this season. Now, many fans might question the ambition behind the links.

But one should not overlook what the American international achieved this season, just because he was playing to avoid relegation instead of competing for trophies.

For a while, it had looked like West Brom were going to get relegated. Incidentally, Campbell had largely played as a right-back regularly early on in the campaign.

Towards the end of the season, he was able to establish himself as a regular at centre-back. And in the final nine games of the Championship season, they actually kept seven clean sheets, helping them avoid relegation.

On the other end of the pitch, he was effective as well. The defender chipped in with four goals and two assists.

That is quite some performance, especially for a relegation contender. So, it is unsurprising that Campbell is drawing a ton of attention.

He looks like a pretty complete defender. He is in the 90th percentile in the Championship in several categories across the board, whether it be defensively, going forward, with the ball at his feet or his distribution of it.

Worst-case scenario, signing him would provide Celtic with some competition in the heart of defence. But it is very possible that the American international could establish himself as a starter for the Hoops.

Obviously, Celtic have their fair share of North American talent. They already have got Trusty and Carter-Vickers, two of Campbell's fellow United States teammates.

Then they have Alistair Johnston, who also played at CF Montreal before making the move to Europe, just like Campbell.

Mexican international Julian Araujo also spent time at the club, and who knows, perhaps he could be in line for a return this summer.
