Martin O'Neill's comments have confirmed that the player was dropped against St Mirren and not carrying any sort of injury.

With very little football left to play this season, Celtic, somehow, still remain in contention for two trophies. They sit at third in the league but the deficit is surmountable. Also, they booked their place in the Scottish Cup final with a 6-2 win over St Mirren. At Hampden Park, in the final game of the domestic calendar, they will meet Neil Lennon's Dunfermline Athletic.

The 6-2 scoreline does not give away how tight that game between Celtic and St Mirren actually was. It ended 2-2 after 90 minutes. In the league, that would have dented their title hopes badly.

Fortunately, it was not in the Premiership. The game went to extra-time, and Celtic scored four goals within a span of six minutes to put the game beyond St Mirren.

Kelechi Iheanacho might have been the biggest winner coming out of the day. For the most part, he has been viewed as a transfer mistake, as he has struggled for both form and fitness throughout the campaign.

But with his brace after coming on as a sub at the weekend, many fans are now seeing the Nigerian international as the man who could inspire this Celtic team to the league title.

On the other hand, Tomas Cvancara might now be out of first-team plans completely. The striker was left out of the matchday squad against St Mirren. Now, it has been confirmed that it was not due to any kind of injury.

Martin O'Neill told BBC Scotland: "Cvancara is not injured. Scales was suspended, so Benji Arthur comes in. Arne Engels comes in, if we can call it slight rotation. Daizen Maeda will start through the middle and Iheanacho is there to call upon if needed."

Well, it is not hard to see why O'Neill might be looking for possible solutions, considering how poor Celtic have been in front of goal.

Cvancara arrived on loan from Borussia Monchengladbach and since he came in from a Bundesliga side, a lot of fans were expecting to see a quality addition up top.

So far, Cvancara has not been able to show that. He has not taken his chances and is not clinical enough to be a starter for Celtic. His biggest moment so far has been scoring the winning penalty at Ibrox against the Rangers. But there has not been much else of note that he has been able to do.

There is believed to be an option to buy included in Celtic's loan deal for Cvancara. But there is little to no chance that the Hoops will pick up that option. The same can be said of Junior Adamu. But on the other hand, Iheanacho might have thrown his Parkhead career a lifeline with his brace against St Mirren and might still have a future here, depending on how the next few weeks go.
