Celtic fans want to see the player start going forward after his integral role in the win over St Mirren.

The 6-2 scoreline suggests it was a one-sided win for Celtic in the Scottish Cup semi-final against St Mirren. Clearly, it does not tell the full story. The Hoops did go 2-0 up and it felt like they might finally get a convincing win after a long time.

But St Mirren had other plans. They mounted a comeback in the second half and took the game into extra-time.

Then, we saw a phase of play from Celtic that we have not witnessed in months. Probably not once this season.

Celtic scored four times in the space of six minutes to make it 6-2. This was what fans have been calling out for for months. And finally, we got a glimpse of the fast, attacking football, and it was enough to blow St Mirren away.

One could argue that it came against a team near the bottom of the Premiership table, which was tired after having to come back from two goals down. Perhaps there is something to do that.

At the same time though, the momentum was actually in St Mirren's favour going into extra-time. So, one cannot overlook how well Celtic did.

One player who finally over a large section of the fanbase today is Kelechi Iheancho, who came off the bench to score a brace in extra-time.

The first was a header from a superb James Forrest cross. The second was a composed finish from inside the box.

Celtic have been missing a reliable goalscorer for a long, long time. If Iheanacho can be that over the next few weeks, there is a chance they can mount a comeback in this league title race.

A lot of fans are calling for him to start from here on. One wrote: "Iheanacho and Forrest must start going forward."

Another wrote: "Iheanacho first name on the team sheet for the run in."

A third fan said: "Say what you want about Iheanacho but when he gets his minutes on the pitch he fights for every second in our jersey. Got to be given more game time."

Another added: "If Celtic want to win the league, Iheanacho has to be the striker."

Well, it is understandable that the fans want to see more of Iheanacho on the back of that performance. But at the same time, one cannot overlook his fitness situation.

Iheanacho might not be in a position to start and play 90 minutes. In fact, that is more than likely the case. His best role right now might be coming off the bench.

That way, Iheanacho gets to come in against opponents who are tired and that makes it a bit easier for him.

On the other hand, if he is put back into the starting XI and picks up another injury, Celtic will lose the only reliable goalscorer they have available.
