The Scottish FA have made an announcement regarding the Scottish Cup semi-final between Celtic and St Mirren, which might not go down well with the fans.

It would be safe to say that Celtic find themselves in a tough spot right now. In the league, they are trailing Hearts by three points and the Rangers by two. That is very much within touching distance as five post-split fixtures are left to be played, including against each other.

Yet, considering how inspiring Celtic have looked lately, they look like underdogs in this league title race going into the post-split fixtures. The Hoops' best chance at silverware this season might be in the Scottish Cup.

Celtic are set to face St Mirren in the semi-final of the Scottish Cup at Hampden Park this weekend.

Of course, the last time the two sides met there, Celtic lost 3-1 in the League Cup final. So, they cannot afford to take the opposition lightly for even a second.

The two met last weekend as well. Celtic came out on top at home, but barely, thanks to an early goal from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. It was the latest in a long list of narrow wins this season. It is hard to remember the last time the Hoops won by a convincing margin.

The Scottish FA have officially announced the officials for the Scottish Cup semi-final between Celtic and St Mirren at Hampden Park.

Matthew MacDermid will referee Celtic vs St Mirren on Sunday, with assistant referees Calum Spence and David Roome joining him at Hampden Park. Kevin Clancy will be on VAR duty alongside assistant Chris Graham for the day.

Celtic's record with MacDermid as referee is a reason for concern for the Hoops though. He has taken charge of three of the club's games so far this season. They have won one and lost two of them.

Naturally, Celtic fans have been left concerned about what awaits them at Hampden Park against St Mirren.

What everybody will be hoping is that refereeing calls do not end up having an impact on the overall result of the game. The best matches are those in which you do not even notice the man with the whistle.

Celtic have had their problems throughout the campaign but the fans will be hoping that the players are ready to step up to the plate at Hampden Park this weekend.

Whoever wins this match will face Dunfermline Athletic in the final as the Championship side booked their spot for the Hampden Park finale with a win over Falkirk on penalties in what has to go down as one of the stories of the footballing season.
