The goalkeeper has confirmed that he has been in talks over a new contract amid rumours of a move to Celtic.

The summer transfer window is still some time away and Celtic have a lot to play for between now and then. Despite that, players continue to be linked with a move to Parkhead.

One area where Celtic will need to strengthen is between the posts. Kasper Schmeichel's contract runs out in the summer and he has not been involved for a while anyway, having picked up an injury that could keep him out of the game for more than a year and end his career.

On the other hand, Viljami Sinisalo's numbers are not exactly the most convincing that he is the right long-term answer. People at the club will surely have had a look at the data.

At the very least, Celtic need to bring in somebody who is capable of challenging Sinisalo for the first-team spot.

One of the players to be linked with Celtic recently is Jon McCracken of Dundee FC. The Scottish goalkeeper has made the most saves in the Premierhsip this season.

In terms of the quality of shots faced, he has prevented 5.48 goals based on XG faced. In contrast, Sinisalo has given away 1.37 goals extra.

On top of that, McCracken's current deal with Dundee is set to run out in the summer and he has not signed an extension yet.

So, it is not hard to understand why somebody like McCracken could be of interest to Celtic. They could have the chance to sign a proven Premiership goalkeeper on a free transfer.

Of course, Dundee might be keen to keep him as well and it looks like negotiations over a new deal are ongoing, although nothing is expected to be made final before they officially avoid relegation.

According to The Courier, McCracken said regarding the situation: “There’s not been anything for definite. We’re still in negotiations with the club.

“Myself and the manager have been quite clear that no decisions can be made until the club secures it’s safety.

“That’s kind of where we’re at.

“Still in negotiations with the club but, like I say, nothing can be set in stone until we get the job done, really.”

If McCracken does not succeed in agreeing an extension with Dundee FC, he should not be worried about his future as there is expected to be no lack of suitors for his signature if he does become a free agent.

Of course, McCracken would not be a high-profile addition by any means. Most Celtic fans would like to see a goalkeeper proven at the highest level.

Celtic are no strangers to bringing in veteran goalkeepers to fill the first-team spot under the crossbar, having done it with both Joe Hart and Schmeichel. Could they try to repeat that trick?

Mathew Ryan is someone who has been linked with Celtic in recent times. He was believed to be a target for the Hoops back when Ange Postecoglou was the manager. Now, it appears that the Hoops might revisit their interest in the Australian international whose team could be relegated from La Liga.
