Rangers legend, Kris Boyd, has made a U-turn on Celtic after their 3-1 win in the Glasgow Derby.
With two league games left to go and just one point separating the top two, it would be safe to say that this is the closest title race in Scotland in decades. Interestingly, the Rangers are not even involved.
Going into the post-split fixtures, this was very much a three-horse race. But the Rangers have fallen behind after losing three games on the trot. It is now down to Celtic and Hearts.
Celtic got themselves a major boost with a 3-1 win over the Rangers in the Glasgow Derby at the weekend. This is the first time that they have won one inside 90 minutes in ten attempts.
Things won't get any easier though. In fact, most feel that the upcoming away trip to take on Motherwell is a tougher game. They have already beaten the Rangers and drawn against Hearts in the post-split fixture and are in good form. So, Celtic annot take anything for granted.
The win over the Rangers should give them some confidence though. And despite their shaky form all season, let's not forget that this is a team that is used to winning titles. They have been here before and know how to handle these moments. The fans will be hoping that that experience gets them through in the end.
A lot of pundits seem to be changing their tune on Celtic following the Glasgow Derby as well.
Kris Boyd is not someone who is known to have a history of positivity towards Celtic. But he believes that if the Hoops can win against Motherwell, they will be champions of Scotland.
According to The Scottish Sun, the Rangers legend said: “Wednesday night is huge, if Celtic can get through that and don’t lose, I don’t expect anything else except a Celtic victory on Saturday.
“If it’s a full house at Celtic Park, Hearts have picked up a few injuries to key players, you’ve got to say, Halkett’s been outstanding all season, Leonard since he came in has been really good as well, two key components in that Hearts team that have got them to this stage.
“If Celtic do not lose the game at Fir Park on Wednesday, I think they would win the game on Saturday.”
That is something that we would agree with as well. Motherwell away feels like the tougher of the two tests.
If Celtic can get the better of them, it feels like they should have enough in the tank to get past Hearts on the final day of the season.
Let's not forget, Hearts are not used to these situations. And at times, they do seem to feel the pressure.
It took Hibernian to go down to nine men for Hearts to win that match. And they dropped points against Motherwell, too. Derek McInnes' side have been brilliant all season. But if it comes down to one game, away at Parkhead, for the title, will they come out on top? They very well might. If they do, all credit to them and then some. They would be making Scottish football history. But they still need to prove that. Celtic, on the other hand, have experienced those moments time and again.
