It looks like Liverpool have entered negotiations to sign a player Celtic have already put in a bid for.
Celtic have been linked with quite a few players in recent times. Some of them have enjoyed standout World Cup campaigns. And that has made things more difficult for the Hoops.
Obviously, Celtic are an attractive destination for players. But when Premier League teams come calling, it is hard for the Hoops to compete.
Not only does it raise the transfer valuation of a player immediately, but it is also pretty much impossible for Celtic to compete with the wages on offer at even relegation-contending Premier League sides.
A few days earlier, rumours had emerged that Celtic had put in a bid for a World Cup standout. But it looks like Liverpool have taken a liking to him as well.
Liverpool reportedly in negotiations to sign Celtic transfer target
According to Smashi Sports, Liverpool are in negotiations with Real Oviedo over Egyptian winger Haissem Hassan.
Of course, Mohamed Salah has enjoyed quite the legacy at Liverpool. Could Hassan follow in his Egyptian teammate's footsteps and make the move to Anfield from Real Oviedo.
It goes to show the impact that a good World Cup campaign can have. Hassan is currently at Real Oviedo, who got relegated from La Liga after finishing bottom of the table in the 25/26 campaign.
Hassan had zero goals and three assists to his name. Yes, the underlying stats might still have been impressive but under normal circumstances, you would not have expected Liverpool to come calling.
Hassan was exceptional during the World Cup for Egypt though and that seems to have been enough to convince Liverpool, if reports are accurate.
Can Celtic sign Hassan from Real Oviedo ahead of Liverpool?
Earlier reports had suggested that Celtic had put in a bid in the region of €4 million to sign Hassan. On the other hand, Real Oviedo wanted closer to €7 million.
That figure could rise considerably, now that Liverpool are involved. We know the ceiling though.
There is a release clause believed to be in the region of €12 million, which has been set following Real Oviedo's relegation from the Spanish top flight.
Will Celtic be able to sign Hassan in this summer transfer window? That remains to be seen. But they cannot be considered favourites if Liverpool are genuinely interested in bringing him to Anfield.
Hassan has shown that he could be an excellent signing for Celtic. But it might be out of the Hoops' hands already.
