Celtic will be hoping to finish this rollercoaster season on another high by winning the Scottish Cup. Standing in their way is an opponent nobody could have predicted.

Championship side Dunfermline Athletic have had a fairytale run in the competition. And they are one step away from football history.

Of course, Celtic have no problem preventing football history from unfolding at their expense. Hearts learned that a week ago. Could it be Dunfermline Athletic's turn?

Well, if there is one man who knows Celtic inside out, he is currently in the Dunfermline Athletic camp trying to find a way to get the better of the Hoops.

Neil Lennon has had a very interesting managerial career, full of highs and lows. But nobody can deny that he has a knack for winning things. But if he is able to pull it off with Dunfermline Athletic this weekend, he would be outdoing himself.

To be honest, not many are giving Lennon's side much of a chance going into this match. But they have already beaten multiple Premiership teams on their way to this final. So, they do know how to navigate the challenges of facing a team that is stronger on paper.

Obviously, this will be their toughest challenge to date. But Lennon's side is not willing to go away without a sound.

According to BBC Sport, Lennon said: "It's not a day out for us.

"I've seen a lot of comments this week about Martin [O'Neill] picking up the trophy with Callum McGregor and if he'd have been here earlier in the season, he would have been winning a treble.

"I wouldn't dismiss us. We're the underdogs, but underdogs bite."

Lennon also has no hesitation in admitting that he is annoyed by people who have already written his team off going into the final: "Yes. It just adds fuel for me, so it's great. It's disrespectful which, again, I don't mind.

"We will come - I wouldn't say brimming full of confidence - but with an inner belief that we can achieve something here. We're under no illusions as to how difficult that's going to be."

Obviously, Celtic cannot make the mistake of taking the opposition lightly for even a second. No matter who is standing in front of them, the aim has to be to bring their A-game. After that, they can only hope that things will fall into place. But there should be no regrets about the preparation and attitude in the aftermath.

Now, it remains to be seen how this game plays out. This could be a lot tighter than most people are anticipating to be honest.

Celtic have had their troubles getting past teams that are weaker than them on paper. So, it would be a mistake to think that this will be a walk in the park for Martin O'Neill's team.

Speaking of O'Neill, this is most likely going to be the last time that he manages a game. And both the fans and the players should be eager to see him leave with another trophy in hand.
