Coming into the season, a good portion of fans would have expected Celtic to be in the Scottish Cup final. What not many would have called is them playing Championship side Dunfermline Athletic in it.

In many ways, it might be an appropriate final chapter in Martin O'Neill's glorious management career. This is most likely going to be his last game as manager, with his interim run coming to an end after this. And at 74 years of age, it is hard to see him taking on the reins at another club or national team. Let's not forget, he had not managed for more than five years before this Celtic opportunity cropped up.

In the opposite dugout in O'Neill's final match will be Neil Lennon. Someone he managed for close to a decade, and a fellow Celtic legend. This is fairytale stuff.

Anyways, that will not be O'Neill's focus on the day. It will be on winning what would be one last trophy before calling it a day and walking off into the sunset, hopefully to take up a behind the scenes role at Celtic.

At least that is the ending that Celtic fans are hoping for. Let's see how it plays out at Hampden Park.

The Scottish FA have announced the officials for the game. Steven McLean has been named the referee.  Frank Connor and Scott Anderson will be his assistants. Matthew MacDermid is going to be on VAR duty, assisted by Gary Hilland.

Of course, refereeing decisions and calls have been a topic of heavy discussion over the last couple of Celtic games, whether with reason or not.

We will be hoping that there are no controversial calls to dissect after this game. That is our hope for pretty much every game of football.

If Dunfermline Athletic are able to pull this off, it will go down as one of the greatest upsets in Scottish football history. Obviously, O'Neill and Celtic should do everything possible to avoid that from happening.

This might be the last time that we see a few other Celtic heroes for the last time in the green-and-white as well. Daizen Maeda is the most prominent of them as he is widely expected to complete a long-touted exit this summer. And if he does so, his run of form these last few weeks have secured his status as a club legend. The opposite has been the case with Reo Hatate, who has barely featured.

There are question marks over the future of players like Arne Engels, Kelechi Iheanacho, Benjamin Nygren, Alex Oxalde-Chamberlain and a few others as well. So, we might be seeing this unit together for the last time.
