Fabrizio Romano has confirmed a permanent deal that will have an impact on Celtic and their plans for the summer.
Celtic have only made two additions to their squad so far this summer. Camilo Duran has arrived from Qarabag. And Kasper Hogh has been brought in from Bodo/Glimt for a record deal.
Unfortunately, questions are already being raised about both. Duran featured on the right in the opening league game against Dundee FC and was not nearly as effective as he was through the middle in pre-season.
On the other hand, the club's record signing, Hogh, missed glorious chances to score. Of course, it is far too early to make any judgments. But fans have already been left worried about where things might be headed for him.
One would hope that things get better for those two. At the same time, there has to be a recognition that more additions are needed and all across the pitch.
Fabrizio Romano confirms move that is not good news for Celtic
One position where Celtic will need to improve this summer is between the posts. But a Manchester United goalkeeper they were being linked with is now headed elsewhere.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Radek Vitek is set to join Middlesbrough on a permanent deal.
Vitek spent the previous season on loan at Bristol City and was impressive. The underlying numbers suggested that he could be a decent addition for Celtic.
Unfortunately, that move is now off the table as he is headed to Middlesbrough. Celtic will need to turn their attention elsewhere.
There are several other goalkeepers they have been linked with as well. Let's hope that a serious move is made soon.
Would Viljami Sinisalo be a good signing for Celtic?
Viljami Sinisalo started the first league game of the season on Flag Day and kept a clean sheet. So, even if a new goalkeeper is signed, it should not automatically mean that he is back to being number two.
Sinisalo did well last season when called upon to become a starter following Kasper Schmeichel's serious injury, which led to his retirement.
If or when a new goalkeeper is signed, he should be viewed as competition for Sinisalo, not an automatic starter, unless it is a high-profile name that the club end up spending a lot of money on signing.
For now, with the names that are being linked with Celtic, that feels unlikely. It does feel like the focus is on finding a hidden gem from the lower leagues rather than going for a ready-made starter with years of proven experience.
