It looks like a Premier League have already made contact looking to sign the Celtic defender amid impressive World Cup displays.
Celtic fans must be worried by the sheer number of key players that have been linked with a move away from Parkhead in recent days. That figure only seems to be growing as the World Cup plays out.
Celtic have a healthy representation at the ongoing World Cup. Some players and teams might be exceeding expectations.
It is very clear that the Canadian national team have improved drastically in recent times. But even then, not many could have predicted how well they would do in this tournament.
They have made the most of home advantage with their latest performance being a 6-0 win over Qatar. No matter which way you look at it, that is an impressive result.
One player who played the entire game is Alistair Johnston. And now, it looks like his displays at the World Cup are catching the eye of Premier League clubs.
According to FulhamFanNews on X, Fulham have made contact with the agent of Johnston.
Johnston is coming off a difficult season as he had to deal with two long-term injuries. So, it is good to see that he is still performing at a high level.
Injuries have been the only real drawback when it comes to Johnston since he joined Celtic. Otherwise, nobody will question his overall quality, leadership or passion.
Obviously, if a significant offer does arrive, Celtic might have to consider it. At the end of the day, Johnston is 27 years of age and has the 'injury prone' tag already.
Ideally, though, a lot of fans would like to see him remain at Celtic in the long run. Johnston is one of those players who can quietly achieve club legend status over time, similar to what Mikael Lustig did in that right-back position before him.
If Celtic do end up sticking with Johnston, they will always need to make sure that they have a quality backup option in their squad, similar to what the requirement is on the opposite flank with Kieran Tierney, another player who has a long history of injuries.
Now, it remains to be seen if Fulham end up making a serious offer for Johnston or not. With the financial muscle that Premier League clubs have, especially those that have remained in the top flight for a meaningful length of time, it would not come as any surprise if they do.
It will also be interesting to see if Celtic revisit the Julian Araujo option this summer. At one point, it was looking inevitable that they would sign him on a permanent basis.
Unfortunately, Araujo suffered an injury that ruled him out for the remainder of the season. And the fan demand for his permanent signing has certainly decreased since then.
If Johnston does depart, one would imagine that it would be back once again, as Araujo is someone who had become a fan favourite within a short span of time.
