We are heading into the Scottish Cup final between Celtic and Dunfermline Athletic, the last game of the season. It will most likely be the last game of Martin O'Neill's managerial career as well, as he is widely expected to step down after this campaign, when his interim deal is set to end.

Now, some have, some have not given up on the idea of O'Neill being handed the job on a permanent basis. And nobody can deny his success. Most other managers would have failed to steer this Celtic team to a league title, under the circumstances in which he had arrived.

The first time around, O'Neill was brought in after Brendan Rodgers quit, having seen Celtic fall eight points behind Hearts in the title race. The second time, the Northern Irishman was brought back after Wilfried Nancy's eight-game, 33-day run which produced six defeats.

It was not just the league win but the manner of it as well. Celtic looked completely out of it weeks back but then went on a winning streak, culminating with a 3-1 victory over Hearts in the final day of the season to finally overtake them in the points table.

Yet, most of the headlines coming out of the iconic victory were about how the game had ended, with fans celebrating on the pitch after the third goal. Or how decisions had apparently gone in Celtic's favour.

Some fans, mostly of Rangers and Hearts, had even tried to push the narrative that the result should be overturned. They thought that the game had been abandoned and there had been no final whistle.

Well, it looks like the situation was completely the opposite. Hearts were the ones happy enough for the game to end, trailing by two goals with 30 seconds to spare.

According to STV News, the Scottish FA have now released the audio of the final moments. The report states:

'The audio confirms Hearts boss Derek McInnes informed match officials his team were “happy to finish” the game as Celtic fans streamed onto the pitch. In the audio, an official tells referee Don Robertson: “Hearts are happy to finish. Derek McInnes has told me they are happy to finish.” The audio continued: “They [Hearts] want their players off the pitch.”'

Well, that should put the idea to bed that the final whistle had not been blown and there was a realistic chance that the decision could, or should, be overturned to a 3-0 win for Hearts.

This is something that even Celtic fans would have wanted clearing up. Now, there are no distractions heading into the Scottish Cup final. The full focus has to be on that game, as the Hoops vie for a double.

It is most probably going to be the final game that O'Neill ever manages as well and the players should do their best to make sure he finishes his glorious managerial career with one last trophy.
