Hearts manager Derek McInnes made some controversial comments about the penalty Celtic received against Motherwell.
The moment Celtic were handed a penalty against Motherwell deep into added time, everybody knew that there was going to be some controversy coming out of the game.
A draw would have meant that Celtic would need to win by three goals or more against Hearts to secure the title at Parkhead. Now, they just need a victory.
Of course, it is still in the hands of Hearts. But still, they appeared to feel hard done by after the manner in which Celtic clinched victory from the jaws of a draw against Motherwell.
Kelechi Iheanacho made no mistake from the spot, scoring the winner after coming on as a substitute once again. The goal sent the fans into a frenzy but the job is done yet. They still need to win against Hearts, which is not going to be the easiest task, even at home.
Derek McInnes' side won 3-0 against Falkirk in the other game on the night. But all the headlines were grabbed by the comments the manager made after the match.
McInnes called the penalty decision 'disgusting' and added: "We are up against everybody. I don’t think it’s a penalty."
According to the Daily Mail, the SFA are set to probe the Hearts manager's comments. It could yet land McInnes in hot water with the compliance officer, but any further action would not come until after the end of the season.
So, McInnes is expected to be on the touchline when Hearts take on Celtic at Parkhead with the title on the line. And to be honest, that is how it should be.
If the Hoops want to win this title race, which would be a bit of a miracle if you think about how their season has played out, they should be looking to do so against the strongest version of Hearts.
McInnes' side have outdone any expectations that could have realistically been set for them. Even after their start, everybody had predicted that they fall behind at some point in the season, just as Aberdeen had done in the previous campaign. That has not happened. Instead, they have continued to produce the results and deserve to be in this position.
For Celtic, the focus should be on the action on the pitch. Some way or another, they have given themselves a chance at winning the league despite seeing two managers leave in the middle of the season and having an interim one who had been out of management since 2019. Now, it is about finishing the job and winning a fifth-straight league title.
