The Bournemouth announcement is great news for Celtic and their hopes of landing a top manager in the summer.
Who will be the next Celtic manager? Martin O'Neill's run as interim manager ends this summer and he will be stepping down. That feels like the right decision as well. He is 74 years of age and has talked about the toll it takes on him these days.
To be honest, there are not many clues pointing towards anybody in particular at the moment when it comes to the club's next manager. Names like Robbie Keane, Jens Berthel Askou and Roberto Martinez have been doing the rounds for a while but have not exactly captured the imagination of the fans.
One name that most would like to see back in the Celtic hot seat someday is Ange Postecoglou. The Australian was phenomenal during his two-year spell at Parkhead, winning five trophies while playing some of the best attacking football we have seen in a while.
Postecoglou left for Tottenham Hotspur and won the Europa League. Considering how things have gone for Spurs since sacking him, as they find themselves in the relegation zone, the Aussie boss might have overachieved without getting any credit for it.
Postecoglou has been without a job for a while now, having been sacked by Nottingham Forest after spending a little over a month in that job.
Postecoglou has already mentioned that he does not plan to return to Celtic. That being said, with opportunities seemingly scarce, could that force a rethink?
Earlier, it had been reported that Postecoglou was one of the frontrunners for the Bournemouth job. Andoni Iraola is leaving in the summer.
But now, that opportunity has gone. Bournemouth have officially announced that Marco Rose will be their manager from next season.
At 60 years of age, it is hard to imagine that too many top Premier League clubs would be willing to take a risk on Postecoglou at this point. While he certainly has the talent for it, his spell at Nottingham Forest has certainly hurt his reputation a bit.
On the other hand, Postecoglou's brand of football is not exactly cut out for sides that will be trying to avoid relegation. If he ends up at a club like that, it could turn out to be another Nottingham Forest spell.
Celtic should definitely give Postecoglou a call and see if he is open to the idea of a return. He is perfect for the Hoops. He plays a brilliant brand of winning football and has the eye for talent within the budget constraints that the club work under.
There is no better option than him out there. And if Postecoglou feels that he will be without a job beyond this summer, he might change his mind when it comes to a Parkhead return. There is no harm in asking the question.
