Brent Venables secures a dynamic two-way playmaker as the elite two-sport standout chooses Norman over Oregon and Michigan, keeping the Sooners’ 2027 class in the top four
The Oklahoma Sooners just picked up a serious athlete for the 2027 class.
Elite two-way prospect Bode Sparrow announced his commitment to OU, telling Hayes Fawcett of Rivals that he’s heading to Norman.
The 6-foot-2, 195-pound standout from out west chose the Sooners over BYU, Utah, Oregon, and other offers that included Michigan. Sparrow told Fawcett: “Sooner nation..Les get it.”
This is a really good get. Sparrow is ranked as the No. 2 athlete in the entire 2027 Rivals300 and is one of the most exciting two-sport guys in the cycle.
On offense, he’s a dynamic receiver who had a huge junior season, hauling in 83 catches for 1,218 yards and 16 touchdowns. He’s got strong hands, runs well after the catch, and plays with real explosiveness.
On defense, he projects best at safety, where he’s already shown he can ball. Sparrow has 16 interceptions over his sophomore and junior seasons combined and is a legit threat to take it to the house every time he gets his hands on the ball.
He flies around, makes big hits, and shows great range and instincts. He’s the kind of guy who’s always around the football.
He’s also a standout basketball player, an all-state point guard, which tells you how fluid and athletic he really is. At 6’2, 200 pounds with that kind of skill set, Sparrow is on the short list of the best pure athletes in the 2027 class.
The Cole Bishop comp of the Buffalo Bills makes a lot of sense. Like Bishop, Sparrow is a two-way playmaker on Friday nights who produces on both sides of the ball with physicality and ball skills. He has that same kind of upside at safety once he focuses on one side of the ball in college.
This commitment pushes Oklahoma’s 2027 class to 26 total commits. According to Rivals, the Sooners now sit at No. 4 nationally and No. 2 in the SEC. That’s still a very strong position even with the natural movement that happens in every cycle.
Bode Sparrow gives Brent Venables and the staff another versatile piece who can develop on either side of the ball. Most projections have him ending up at safety long-term, where his range, instincts, and hitting ability could make him a difference-maker in the SEC.
This feels like the type of high-upside, athletic addition that pays off big once guys get on campus, get stronger, and spend time in the OU system. Sparrow has the tools and the production to develop into a real playmaker in Norman.
Another big win for the Sooners on the recruiting trail. The class keeps building.
