If the LA Bowl proves to be the final game for Jedd Fisch as head coach of Washington, he will be going out with a bang.
The Huskies overpowered Boise State 38-10 in the game Saturday night in Inglewood, Calif., their third bowl win in the past four seasons. The dominant victory was fueled by five interceptions of Boise State quarterbacks and the Huskies scoring on all four visits to the red zone.
Washington quarterback Demond Williams Jr. tied a program record with four touchdown passes in a bowl game and finished 15-of-24 passing for 214 yards. He was named player of the game.
Denzel Boston caught six passes for 125 yards and a touchdown. Jonah Coleman led the Huskies (9-4) with 12 carries for 86 yards and a score.
The game was played with rumors and speculation surrounding the Huskies program that Fisch soon will be named the head coach at Michigan, which abruptly fired Sherrone Moore amid scandal on Thursday.
For his part, Fisch said he expects to be coaching the Huskies in 2026.
Boise State (9-5) scored first, with Colton Boomer hitting a 52-yard field goal 3:35 into the first quarter. And until the final minutes of the game, when Matt Lauter caught an 8-yard pass for a touchdown, that kick was the highlight for the Broncos.
In all, Boise State totaled 13 drives that ended with two scores, four punts and two turnovers on downs in addition to the five interceptions.
Quarterback Maddux Madsen apparently aggravated an injury to his right leg and did not play in the second half for Boise State. Instead, he was seen wearing a walking boot to address the injury, which forced him to miss three games in November.
He finished the game with 7 of 16 completions for 51 yards with two interceptions.
His replacement, Max Cutforth, completed 15 passes for 27 yards and a touchdown with three interceptions.
Washington took a 24-7 lead into the half and had a much neater drive chart than Boise State for the game: 14 drives, one field goal, five touchdowns, one fumble, six punts and a drive that concluded at the game’s end.
The LA Bowl represents the final game for the Broncos as members of the Mountain West Conference. Boise State is joining the reborn Pac-12 next fall as the conference will return to life two years after it was decimated by the departure of 10 member teams to other leagues.
Washington was among those teams with its move to the Big Ten.
