The Washington Huskies football team is nearly finished building the 2027 recruiting class.

The Huskies have had 23 players commit to the Class of '27, with the latest two coming from a pair of offensive linemen: three-star Tye Kennedy (the sign of former UW All-American Lincoln Kennedy) and four-star Gecova Doyal.

Washington has been successful with several particular position groups and have landed four wide receivers and three offensive linemen, with the potential to land a fourth in four-star DaJohn Yarborough, who's set to announce his commitment July 11.

With the success the Huskies have had in building certain position groups, there's one group they haven't been able to close on: cornerback.

Washington has one cornerback committed in the Class of '27: three-star Maurice Williams. The Huskies have been named the finalists for several three-to-four star corners in the class, including Josiah Molden, Kamil Loud, Jeovanni Henley and Evan Mack, but all three chose to take their talents elsewhere. Molden committed to Oregon, Loud and Henley committed to Cal and Mack committed to Arizona.

Despite being unsuccessful to this point in landing a second cornerback in the class, Washington appears to be making a push to flip a player near the Huskies' home field.

Washington extended an offer to three-star athlete J'Isaiah Mitchell on June 22, per a post on "X" from Mitchell's official "X" account.

Mitchell is a teammate of Doyal's and attends Puyallup High School in Puyallup, Wash.

The 6-foot-5, 180-pound Washington native is ranked as the 849th-best overall player, 63rd-best athlete and 10th-best player in the state per the 247Sports composite.

Mitchell has been extended offers as both a wide receiver and a cornerback. Currently, he's committed to the Boise State Broncos as a wide receiver, but is apparently keeping his options open based on his post announcing UW's offer. The Huskies' offer to Mitchell was as a cornerback.

Williams was also listed as an athlete in his recruitment but is currently listed as a cornerback.

Between Mitchell and Williams, the former has the size that's typical of a starting cornerback for UW secondary coach John Richardson and defensive coordinator Ryan Walters.

Last season's starters, Tacario Davis (drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals) and Ephesians Prysock (drafted by the San Francisco 49ers) were both listed at 6-foot-4. This season's projected starters, sophomore Dylan Robinson and senior transfer Emmanuel Karnley, are both listed at 6-foot-3.

Given Washington's success in in-state recruiting over the last several years, it's very possible the Huskies could pull off their first "flip" of the cycle.

If Mitchell opts to honor his commitment with the Broncos, Washington could also find another answer in four-star cornerback Censere Gaylord, who's currently projected to commit to the Huskies according to several analysts.
