The University of Washington football team will undoubtedly see its fair share of success in the transfer portal as a power conference team with deep history and deep pockets.
But the Huskies are destined to lose some players too, and that officially happened on Monday as defensive lineman Bryce Butler committed to Texas Tech.
Per On3 Sports:
BREAKING: Washington transfer DL Bryce Butler has Committed to Texas Tech, he tells @On3Sports
The 6’5 315 DL totaled 19 tackles, 2 sacks, and 1 FR in 2025
He’ll have 1 year of eligibility left
A native of Canada, Butler played two seasons for the Huskies, but he was given a redshirt year after just three appearances in 2024. He also spent two years at Garden City Community College in Kansas.
The Red Raiders went 12-2 in the regular season, winning the Big 12 championship and earning a first-round bye in the College Football Playoff. However, they were shut out by Oregon in the quarterfinal 23-0.
Oregon is now in the semifinals against Indiana, while Miami will take on Ole Miss. The winners will play for the national title.
MORE HUSKIES STORIES:
Jedd Fisch's team went 9-4 this past season, eventually capturing the LA Bowl with a win over Boise State. While that was an ultimately disappointing result, Washington figures to be extremely strong in 2026 thanks to the return of superstar quarterback Demond Williams Jr. He's one of the most dynamic players in the country and should make UW an instant contender in the Big 10, especially since they don't have to play Ohio State or Michigan as part of the 2026 Big 10 Schedule.
That said, Washington will have to replace stars Jonah Coleman and Denzel Boston, who have both declared for the NFL Draft.
--The men's basketball team suffered a tough loss on Sunday night against Indiana. The 90-80 track meet dropped the Huskies to 9-5 overall and 1-2 inside league play. Desmond Claude had 18 points and Zoom Diallo had 16. Hannes Steinbach led the way with 20 points and 10 rebounds.
The Huskies will continue a brutal stretch against No. 5 Purdue on Wednesday in West Lafayette, Ind.
--The Washington women, coming off a win against No. 6 Michigan, are back in action on Jan. 8 against Michigan State. That game will tip-off at 6 p.m. PT at Alaska Airlines Arena. Our own Teren Kowatsch will be there in person, so follow him @Teren_Kowatsch for all the latest.
