FC Twente host Eredivisie leaders PSV Eindhoven on Sunday, with both sides entering the clash in strong domestic form.

Peter Bosz’s side are aiming to extend their winning run, while John van den Brom’s Twente look to end a long losing streak against the champions.

PSV travel to De Grolsch Veste as early Eredivisie leaders after climbing to the top of the table last weekend on goal difference. Their position could change during gameweek seven, however, with AZ Alkmaar and Feyenoord also close behind.

Twente have also made a strong start to the campaign so far. After losing their opening league match against Heerenveen, Van den Brom’s side have gone unbeaten through their next five fixtures, collecting 13 points in the process.

Their latest result was a 2-0 victory over ADO Den Haag, which moved Twente into fifth place and kept them firmly among the early challengers.

The problem for the hosts is their recent record against PSV. Twente have lost their last eight meetings with the Eindhoven club, including seven consecutive Eredivisie defeats. Across those eight matches, PSV have scored 22 goals and conceded only five.

Bosz’s side also arrive in Enschede having won their last five league matches. Following the disappointing late 2-2 draw against Fortuna Sittard on the opening weekend, PSV have responded with victories over Excelsior, Groningen, Utrecht, Ajax and Sparta.

The defending champions have been particularly productive in front of goal, scoring 22 times in their opening six league matches. Their attacking approach remains central to Bosz’s philosophy, although PSV have also conceded seven goals in that time.

The visitors have enjoyed their recent trips to Enschede. PSV have won on each of their last three visits to Twente, scoring eight goals and conceding only twice during that run.

Van den Brom has a largely settled squad available, although Kristian Hlynsson and Stav Lemkin remain sidelined with their respective injuries.

Lars Unnerstall is expected to continue in goal, with Bart van Rooij, Robin Pröpper, Max Bruns and Ruud Nijstad forming the defensive line. Twente have conceded only five goals in six league matches, giving them one of the strongest defensive records in the division.

Younes Taha, Ramiz Zerrouki and Daouda Weidmann are expected to operate in midfield. Weidmann impressed during the victory over ADO, while Taha has also contributed two assists this season.

Marko Pjaca and Sondre Ørjasæter should accompany Wout Weghorst in the attacking positions. The experienced striker leads Twente with three league goals and has also registered one assist.

Bosz rotated heavily for the 4-1 victory over Sparta, giving Sven Mijnans an opportunity to lead the attack. The midfielder responded with a hat-trick, while Esmir Bajraktarević supplied two assists.

However, Pepi is expected to return to the starting XI against Twente, with Ivan Perišić and Ruben van Bommel also likely to come back into the attacking unit.

PSV are still without several players. Alassane Pléa, Sam Lammers, Sami Ouaissa, Adamo Nagalo, Kiliann Sildillia and captain Jerdy Schouten are all unavailable.

Matej Kovář should retain his place despite conceding Sparta’s opening goal, with Sergiño Dest, Lutsharel Geertruida, Armando Obispo and Mauro Júnior expected to form the back four.

In midfield, Paul Wanner, Kodai Sano and Guus Til are likely to start. Sano has already impressed since his €15m move from NEC and scored against Sparta last weekend.

With Twente unbeaten since their opening-day defeat and PSV carrying a five-match winning run, Sunday’s meeting brings two sides in strong form together. For Van den Brom, the task is to halt a sequence of eight straight defeats against PSV.

For Bosz, the challenge lies in maintaining momentum and ensuring the defending champions remain at the top of the Eredivisie table.
