Transfer clauses expire next week, handing the Eredivisie champions leverage as European suitors circle Joey Veerman and Sergino Dest ahead of a high-stakes market deadline.

Joey Veerman's and Sergino Dest’s futures at PSV Eindhoven remain unresolved, with the players' transfer situations set for significant changes next week.

According to a report by PSV watcher Rik Elfrink of Eindhovens Dagblad, the 27-year-old Veerman has been hoping to move abroad for several years and has previously expressed a preference for Italy or Spain. Yet, despite interest in his situation, no club has made a concrete approach so far this summer.

That could change in the coming weeks, although PSV are about to regain greater control over the midfielder’s future.

PSV agreed a transfer clause with Veerman that allows him to leave for approximately €20 million. According to multiple sources, the clause expires sometime between August 15 and 20, meaning interested clubs have only a short window remaining to activate it.

If a club offers €20 million or more before the deadline, PSV are obliged to accept the bid.

However, once the clause expires, the situation changes significantly. PSV would no longer be required to approve a transfer, meaning the club would have greater control over whether Veerman leaves.

That does not necessarily mean a move would become impossible.

PSV Could Still Cooperate

PSV could still agree to sell Veerman after the clause expires, particularly if a suitable offer arrives and the club can secure a replacement.

The Eindhoven club is aware of the midfielder’s long-standing desire to play abroad. Veerman has two years remaining on his current contract and has spent almost five years at PSV.

During the club’s training camp in Germany in July, Veerman admitted he was surprised that no concrete interest had emerged.

He reiterated his preference for Italy or Spain but did not rule out other leagues. Any interested club, however, would need to be prepared to spend a significant amount to prise him away.

Veerman has also made clear that he remains happy at PSV despite his ambitions to play abroad.

“It’s certainly not a prison,” he said with a touch of humour when discussing his situation.

Borussia Dortmund Monitoring Situation

Several clubs are reportedly keeping an eye on the 16-time Netherlands international.

According to Soccernews, Borussia Dortmund are among those monitoring Veerman’s situation, although the German club have not yet approached PSV.

If Dortmund or another interested side wants to take advantage of the €20 million clause, they will need to move quickly.

A similar situation occurred last year when Brentford made a late approach for Veerman, but PSV ultimately retained the midfielder.

Also in other news, Sergiño Dest appears increasingly likely to remain at PSV Eindhoven beyond the current transfer window, despite having a clause that could allow him to leave for €23 million.

According to PSV watcher Rik Elfrink, the lack of concrete interest in the United States international means a departure is becoming less likely as the transfer deadline approaches.

Elfrink comments on the situation on X: “Dest's sales clause expires this weekend already. After 15 August, PSV does not have to cooperate with a transfer. Until that time, the previously mentioned 23 million remains the limit. A transfer can theoretically still happen later if a great offer comes in and a good replacement can be found.”

Previously, according to transfer journalist Sacha Tavolieri, PSV had made an initial enquiry about the 18-year-old defender Davis Opoku, who currently plays for Oud-Heverlee Leuven.

Tavolieri reported that PSV's enquiry is primarily designed to establish the conditions surrounding a possible transfer, with the club only expected to pursue Opoku seriously if Sergiño Dest leaves Eindhoven.

The United States international is under contract with PSV until mid-2028, with a reported release clause of €23 million.

Despite potential interest from elsewhere, PSV have indicated that they currently have no need to sell the right-back during the transfer window. The club remains satisfied with Dest's development and his sporting value to Peter Bosz's squad.

For now, a transfer is not imminent. However, with the clause about to expire and three weeks still remaining in the transfer window, Veerman and Dest’s futures could yet become one of PSV’s most intriguing late-window stories.
