Turning Champions League frustration into domestic fuel, Peter Bosz demands a sharper attacking edge as the Eredivisie leaders look to bounce back against ADO Den Haag.

PSV Eindhoven manager Peter Bosz has admitted his side could have taken something from their Champions League defeat to RB Leipzig, but insists the disappointment felt by his players is a positive sign as they turn their attention back to the Eredivisie.

PSV suffered a 1-0 defeat in Germany, with Brajan Gruda scoring the decisive goal in the 75th minute. Despite the result, Bosz believes his team performed well for significant periods and showed they could compete against a strong opponent.

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s Eredivisie fixture against ADO Den Haag, the PSV manager reflected on the missed opportunity while warning his players against underestimating their next opponents.

Bosz: ‘There Was More to Be Had’ Against Leipzig

Bosz was disappointed with the result but saw encouraging elements in PSV’s performance, particularly their build-up play and positioning. However, he acknowledged that his side failed to turn possession into enough clear-cut opportunities.

“That it’s a shame, and always will be, and that it wasn’t necessary,” Bosz said when asked about his conclusion after reviewing the match.

“We played well for large stretches of the match. We had possession, but we didn’t manage to create enough chances from it. We didn’t get enough players into the opponent’s box.”

The PSV manager was pleased with aspects of his team’s play against Leipzig but believes greater attacking presence was needed to make their possession count.

“When I look at our build-up play and positioning, we had some strong, good stretches against a good team. Things didn’t go our way, and that’s a shame, because there was more to be had,” he added.

Bosz also believes a draw would have been a fair reflection of the contest, although he acknowledged Leipzig created dangerous opportunities of their own.

“It’s actually a good thing that the players are disappointed they didn’t get a result here,” he explained. “I think if you watch the entire game, a draw would have been fair. It’s not that we absolutely had to win the match. They also had great chances, make no mistake.”

Schouten’s Recovery Progressing as Ouaissa Builds Fitness

Bosz also provided updates on Jerdy Schouten and Sami Ouaissa as PSV manage their squad ahead of a busy run of fixtures.

Schouten is continuing his recovery from a serious injury and remains on schedule, according to the manager. However, the nature of the problem means he still faces a lengthy rehabilitation period.

“There’s a set recovery period for his injury. I spoke with him just a week ago, and he’s right on track, so fortunately, things are going well. It’s a serious injury that requires a long recovery time,” Bosz said.

Ouaissa, meanwhile, has returned to training with the first team and is expected to gain match fitness with PSV U21 after missing a normal pre-season.

“He’s back training with our team. He’ll soon make his first appearance for PSV U21. He didn’t have a normal preseason, so he’ll definitely need to get some playing time, and fortunately, he can do that with PSV U21,” Bosz explained.

The manager also praised Lutsharel Geertruida, highlighting the defender’s technical ability, physical strength and intelligence on the pitch.

Bosz Warns PSV About ADO Den Haag

Attention now shifts to ADO Den Haag, who Bosz believes deserve respect for their attacking approach and performances against strong opposition.

The PSV manager recalled watching ADO against his club’s reserve team last season and was impressed by their willingness to play forward.

“Last year, our reserve team played against ADO, and I thought they played really good football. Bold, daring, and attacking,” he said.

Bosz also pointed to ADO’s draw against Feyenoord, during which they took the lead at De Kuip, as evidence of their threat.

“They earned a draw against Feyenoord and took the lead at De Kuip. That’s impressive, and it should certainly serve as a warning to us.”

After the frustration of Leipzig, PSV must now return to domestic action with their focus firmly on ADO. Bosz’s message is clear: the European defeat should provide motivation, but his players cannot afford to carry any complacency into their next challenge.
