Cody Gakpo has reportedly decided to leave Liverpool and join Manchester City, with a deal worth close to €100 million now being negotiated between the Premier League clubs.

The transfer could also deliver at least €5 million to his former club PSV.

Former PSV crowd favourite Cody Gakpo is on the verge of a major move away from Liverpool, with multiple media outlets, including the Eindhovens Dagblad, reporting that the Netherlands international has chosen Manchester City as his next destination.

The 27-year-old left winger had several options on the table. Liverpool were prepared to keep him, while Tottenham Hotspur had also been concrete in their interest. However, Gakpo has opted for a move to the light-blue side of Manchester.

Manchester City are now in advanced negotiations with Liverpool over a transfer that could be worth almost €100 million, including bonuses, although Gakpo still has to reach a full personal agreement with the Premier League champions.

Gakpo joined Liverpool at the start of 2023 after the Merseyside club paid PSV nearly €50 million for his services during the winter transfer window.

Since arriving at Anfield, the Dutchman has made 128 Premier League appearances and scored 33 goals. His time at Liverpool has also included two memorable meetings with PSV.

Gakpo faced his former club twice, once at the Philips Stadium and once at Anfield Road. In both matches, PSV won.

Now, however, the Dutch forward is preparing for another chapter in his career, with Manchester City pushing to complete the deal.

The proposed transfer could also have significant consequences for PSV.

As relayed by PSV Inside, the Eindhovens Dagblad and Voetbal International had previously reported that PSV could receive between €4 million and €5 million from Gakpo's next transfer because of arrangements surrounding his move from Eindhoven to Liverpool.

The Eindhovens Dagblad has now confirmed on Saturday evening that PSV are set to receive at least €5 million if the Manchester City transfer is completed.

That would provide another substantial financial reward for PSV from a player who came through the club's academy and developed into one of the most sought-after Dutch attackers in Europe.

For Gakpo, meanwhile, the proposed move represents another significant step. After establishing himself at Liverpool, the 27-year-old is now seeking a new challenge in Manchester City's colours.

With negotiations already advanced, the focus is now on finalising Gakpo's personal terms and completing the paperwork before the transfer deadline.
