PSV have already generated over €80 million from player sales this summer, putting the Eredivisie champions in a strong financial position.

With Champions League revenue still to come, the club also has room to strengthen Peter Bosz’s squad before the transfer window closes.

PSV’s season may only be getting started, but financially, the picture in Eindhoven is already looking remarkably healthy.

According to PSV watcher Rik Elfrink of Eindhovens Dagblad, the club has generated more than €80 million in transfer revenue this summer from the departures of Ismael Saibari, Joey Veerman, Joël Drommel and Couhaib Driouech.

PSV are confident that Driouech’s move to Celta de Vigo will bring in around €8 million.  

The financial significance of the sales is particularly notable because the players involved did not carry huge book values on PSV’s balance sheet. That means a substantial portion of the transfer income can have a direct positive impact on the club’s financial position.

The transfer income could also increase further.

Driouech attracted significant interest before eventually moving towards Celta, having previously seen a proposed transfer to Rangers collapse. PSV could now also receive a sizeable fee for Esmir Bajraktarevic, while other players remain available for transfer.

The financial picture is therefore not necessarily complete.

Most importantly, PSV have yet to add their Champions League income to the equation. The club will participate in Europe’s premier competition again this season, providing another significant source of revenue.

However, the transfer windfall does not mean PSV can simply reinvest the entire amount in new players.

A major consideration is the amortisation of transfer fees. PSV currently carry around €40 million per season in amortisation costs, reflecting the fees paid for players including Paul Wanner, Ruben van Bommel, Sven Mijnans, Kodai Sano, Jerdy Schouten, Ricardo Pepi and Yarek Gasiorowski.

Those costs have to be accounted for regardless of the cash generated by outgoing transfers.

Nevertheless, Elfrink reports that PSV do have room for further investment during the final stage of the transfer window.

The club could still bring in one or two attacking players, although ideally another departure would take place first to keep the wage bill under control and prevent the squad from becoming overcrowded.

Bajraktarevic is among the players who could leave, while Dennis Man has also attracted interest. PSV are reluctant to lose the Romanian, however, because he currently has an important role in Bosz’s plans.

The situation is different for Bajraktarevic, who has seen considerably less playing time.

Ryan Flamingo and Kiliann Sildillia could also attract interest from abroad. Nothing concrete had emerged by Monday, while PSV are currently unwilling to consider a loan for Sildillia.

The club therefore does not intend to make major changes to the squad, although a substantial offer could still alter that position.

While PSV’s financial department can already look at the summer with considerable satisfaction, Bosz will be demanding more from his players on the pitch.

The Eindhoven side endured a sluggish opening to the campaign, but their emphatic 5-1 victory over FC Groningen provided a timely response.

The next challenge comes on Sunday against FC Utrecht, with PSV entering the fixture with greater confidence after finally finding their attacking rhythm.

Financially, the club has already enjoyed a lucrative summer. Sporting director Earnest Stewart and Bosz still have decisions to make before the window closes, but PSV enter the final days with both financial flexibility and the possibility of further strengthening their squad.
