Sam Lammers is officially returning to PSV, with the Eindhoven club reaching an agreement with FC Twente for the permanent transfer of the 29-year-old striker.

Lammers has signed a two-season contract with PSV and will wear the number 29 shirt, bringing the forward back to the club where his professional journey began.

“This really feels like coming home,” Sam asserted after entering PSV Campus De Herdgang.

The striker was amazed by how much PSV has changed since his departure, both on and off the pitch.

“It is incredible to see how the club has been building, literally and figuratively, in the meantime. The academy has received a huge upgrade in terms of facilities, the professional side has been completely renovated, and that is not even mentioning all the improvements in the stadium. PSV is on the rise; you can tell by everything.”

Lammers came through PSV's youth academy before eventually breaking into the first team. In September 2020, the Brabant-born striker left the club for Italian side Atalanta, beginning a journey that would take him across several European leagues.

After his spell in Italy, Lammers played for Eintracht Frankfurt, Empoli, Sampdoria, Rangers FC, FC Utrecht and FC Twente.

Now, he returns to Eindhoven with years of experience behind him and a wealth of memories from his first spell at the club.

For Lammers, the decision to return was straightforward once the opportunity emerged.

“From the first phone call, the feeling on both sides was really good. For me, it was a no-brainer to return to PSV. The whole picture just fits now. I am back with great enthusiasm, new energy, and ambition.”

His return also gives PSV another experienced option in the striker position as Peter Bosz continues to shape his squad for the season ahead.

Lammers becomes the seventh reinforcement of PSV's transfer window, following Sven Mijnans, Kodai Sano, Filip Kostic, Lutsharel Geertruida, Sami Ouaissa and Ayoni Santos.

PSV Director of Football Affairs Earnest Stewart revealed that Lammers was at the top of the club's list as they searched for another option up front.

“We were still looking for a strong addition for the striker position and Sam was at the top of everyone's list,” says Stewart.

“He fits very well into the playing style PSV advocates, has a lot of experience, knows the club, and is a proven goalscorer. In addition, he brings the right mentality and knows what it takes to perform at PSV. We are therefore very happy that Sam is back in Eindhoven.”

The move brings Lammers back to the club where his football education began, but this time he returns as an experienced striker with spells in the Netherlands and abroad behind him.

For PSV, the signing provides another attacking option. For Lammers, it is a return to familiar surroundings, with the striker now ready to start the next stage of his career in Eindhoven.
