PSV are set for significant movement on the final day of the transfer window, with Isaac Babadi close to joining Sparta Rotterdam on loan and 19-year-old right-back Essiën Bassey completing a permanent move to Viking Stavanger.

According to PSV watcher Rik Elfrink of Eindhovens Dagblad, Babadi is expected to join Sparta on Wednesday. The 21-year-old midfielder has fallen out of favour at PSV in recent years and is now looking for a new opportunity to continue his development in the Eredivisie.

Babadi had options recently, including Fortuna Sittard and Sparta, but the latter now appears to have won the race.

Sparta are aiming to unveil another player on Wednesday, with everything pointing towards Babadi as that signing.

The midfielder once appeared on the verge of a breakthrough at PSV. His summer in 2023 was particularly promising, as the talented youngster secured a starting position and looked ready to establish himself in the first-team squad.

However, he was unable to build on that progress. Last season, PSV sent Babadi on loan to Royal Antwerp FC, but the move produced limited opportunities and little playing time.

A return to PSV this summer did not change his situation significantly, making a temporary move elsewhere the preferred solution.

Babadi was included in the Jong PSV squad this summer but deliberately did not play any matches for the side.

That decision was important because players can represent a maximum of two clubs in a single season. By avoiding an official appearance for Jong PSV, Babadi preserved the possibility of making another move during the campaign.

He had been open to leaving Antwerp last winter, but such a move would not have solved the problem because he had already made an official appearance for Jong PSV earlier that season.

That restriction no longer applies, allowing Babadi to focus fully on a season with Sparta.

Sparta will take on part of Babadi's salary, although the Rotterdam club cannot cover the midfielder's full wages. He remains contracted to PSV until mid-2028, while technical director Earnest Stewart has cooperated in finding a solution.

Stewart also spoke with the promising midfielder on Monday during Jong PSV's match against Jong Ajax, with the conversation reportedly going smoothly.

During pre-season, Babadi told the ED that he had to accept his current situation at PSV, wanted to work harder and held no grudges against anyone.

Sparta now offer him another chance to demonstrate his ability. Given his lack of regular football in recent seasons, the move represents an important opportunity in his development.

Meanwhile, PSV are also parting ways with Essiën Bassey, who is moving permanently to Norwegian club Viking Stavanger.

Rik Elfrink reports that the 19-year-old Jong PSV right-back had an option to extend his PSV contract but has instead chosen an adventure abroad. The move carries an unusual subplot, with PSV scheduled to face Viking in the Champions League this January.

Bassey joined PSV from De Graafschap in 2022 and had attracted attention during the current summer. He trained with Peter Bosz's first-team squad for an extended period during pre-season before returning to Jong PSV, where he played several matches.

PSV previously had an opportunity to sell him to Sturm Graz, but the Austrian club's offer was considered insufficient. The situation has now changed, with PSV set to receive just over €1 million for the full-back. De Graafschap will also receive a modest training compensation fee.

Bassey's greatest asset at PSV was his speed, although his defensive reliability was less consistent. At 19, there remains considerable room for improvement in that area.

PSV may still look to sign a replacement before the window closes, although the identity of any potential target remains unclear.

There has also been interest in Sol Sidibé recently, including from Belgian club Mechelen.

So far, however, that interest has not resulted in a transfer, meaning Sidibé remains in Eindhoven as the deadline approaches.
