Germany conclude their Group E campaign against Ecuador at MetLife Stadium on Thursday, having already secured their place in the World Cup knockout round.

For Ecuador, however, the stakes could hardly be higher.

Julian Nagelsmann's side have won both of their opening matches, scoring nine goals in the process, while Ecuador arrive under significant pressure after collecting just one point from fixtures against Ivory Coast and Curacao.

Germany have not always been at their fluent best, but they remain one of the tournament's most effective teams.

A devastating 7-1 demolition of Curacao was followed by a dramatic 2-1 comeback victory over Ivory Coast, which Deniz Undav secured with a stoppage-time winner. The Stuttgart forward has emerged as one of Germany's standout performers, contributing three goals and two assists despite largely operating from the bench.

The victory extended Germany's winning streak to 11 matches across all competitions and ensured qualification for the knockout rounds with a game to spare.

Yet Nagelsmann will still have concerns. Germany have now gone eight consecutive World Cup matches without keeping a clean sheet and have conceded in five of their last six internationals.

Ecuador's campaign has been defined by frustration.

A narrow 1-0 defeat to Ivory Coast was followed by a goalless draw against Curacao, despite generating 27 attempts on goal and repeatedly testing goalkeeper Eloy Room. Sebastián Beccacece's side remain one of the few teams yet to score at this tournament, a statistic that perfectly reflects their main problem.

Defensively they have remained competitive. In attack, however, they have lacked the quality needed at World Cup level.

Germany will be without Nico Schlotterbeck after the Borussia Dortmund defender suffered an ankle injury against Ivory Coast that has ruled him out for the remainder of the tournament.

Antonio Rudiger is expected to replace him in central defence alongside Jonathan Tah, with Waldemar Anton and Malick Thiaw remaining alternative options.

With qualification already secured, Nagelsmann is expected to rotate. Oliver Baumann could replace Manuel Neuer in goal, while David Raum, Leon Goretzka and Nadiem Amiri are all pushing for starts.

Undav's match-winning performance against Ivory Coast may also earn him a place in the starting lineup ahead of Kai Havertz.

Germany's challenge is not qualification but maintaining momentum.

Nagelsmann may rotate personnel, but the tactical principles will remain unchanged. Germany will seek to dominate possession, press aggressively after turnovers and use the creativity of Florian Wirtz and Amiri between the lines to create chances.

The one area requiring improvement remains defensive concentration. Germany have occasionally looked vulnerable when opponents transition quickly through midfield, and Ecuador will look to exploit this weakness.

Ecuador have no fresh injury concerns and are unlikely to make sweeping changes despite their disappointing results.

Moises Caicedo remains the key figure in midfield, while captain Enner Valencia continues to lead the attack as he chases his 50th international goal. Gonzalo Plata is expected to support him in the forward line.

For Ecuador, the adjustment is obvious.

Beccacece's side have defended reasonably well throughout the tournament, but they must become significantly more clinical. Against Curaçao, they generated enough opportunities to win comfortably but repeatedly failed to convert promising situations.

Expect Ecuador to play with greater urgency, commit more runners into attacking positions and look to release Valencia and Plata earlier in transition.

Ecuador's captain remains their primary goal threat despite not yet scoring in the tournament. Rudiger's physicality and experience will be tested against Valencia's intelligent movement and ability to exploit spaces behind the defence.

Moises Caicedo vs Joshua Kimmich

The midfield battle could determine the flow of the match. Caicedo must disrupt Germany's rhythm while also helping Ecuador progress possession quickly when opportunities arise.

Deniz Undav vs Willian Pacho

Undav's movement transformed Germany's attack against Ivory Coast. Pacho will need to remain alert to the forward's intelligent positioning inside the penalty area.

Germany have already guaranteed first place in Group E and will finish top regardless of the result in New Jersey.

For Ecuador, the picture is considerably more complicated.

Victory is virtually essential if they are to have any realistic chance of reaching the Round of 32. A win would take them to four points and could secure second place if Ivory Coast fail to beat Curacao.

A draw would leave Ecuador on two points and heavily dependent on third-place qualification mathematics, a scenario that appears highly unlikely. Defeat would confirm elimination.

Germany may have less riding on the result, but Nagelsmann's side will still be motivated by the opportunity to complete a perfect group-stage campaign and equal the longest winning streak in German football history.

Ecuador, meanwhile, arrive with no margin for error. Their World Cup future depends on finally finding the goals that have deserted them throughout Group E.

Ecuador have been difficult to beat defensively, but their weak attack inspires little confidence ahead of a challenging battle against the most prolific attacking team at this summer's tournament.

Even if Nagelsmann makes many changes to his starting XI, Die Mannschaft should still have more than enough quality and depth to beat La Tri and keep their perfect record in Group E.
