The Huskies have added Trey Cornist and Cyncir Bowers.

After officially adding a pair of wide receivers in the transfer portal, the University of Connecticut football team has now added a pair of running backs on Saturday.

As noted by Storrs Central on social media, the next group of Huskies includes Trey Cornist, previously of Central Michigan and Cyncir Bowers, previously of West Virginia.

About Cornist

Cornist is now headed for his third school in three years. He spent the 2024 campaign at Tulane before heading to Central Michigan in 2025. With the Chippewas, he served as a big part of the offense, getting 105 carries for 470 yards. He scored one touchdown as well.

He will come to Storrs with two years of eligibility remaining.

About Bowers

Bowers spent the 2025 season with the Mountaineers, also playing a decent role in the offense. He carried the ball 63 times for 249 yards, also punching in two touchdowns. His longest run was 26 yards. He had eight catches, including a touchdown, and was expected to be the starting running back in 2026. On3 reports that he has two years left of eligibility for the Huskies.

About the opportunity at UConn

It should be pretty good for both players as Jason Candle looks to rebuild the roster in his first year at the helm. UConn is set to lose star quarterback Joe Fagnano to graduation, as well as All-American receiver Skyler Bell. Leading running back Cam Edwards just left and committed to Michigan State via the portal, so there will be ample chances for newcomers to make impacts.

About the Huskies in 2025

It was another banner year for the program, which won nine games for the second straight campaign. Bell was named as the first unanimous First Team Associated Press All-American in school history. He's expected to be selected in the upcoming NFL Draft.

Fagnano lit up the record books as well, throwing 28 touchdowns against just one interception. The Huskies lost to Army in the Fenway Bowl and saw head coach Jim Mora leave for Colorado State, opening up the door for Candle to get the job.
