Celtic are making a serious move for PSV talent Joël van den Berg, with the 19-year-old midfielder increasingly expected to leave Eindhoven for Glasgow.

The Scottish club is prepared to pay around €4 million for the Jong PSV standout, according to PSV watcher Rik Elfrink of Eindhovens Dagblad.

Celtic’s interest in Van den Berg has been developing for some time, and the teenager is keen to make the move abroad. The Glasgow club sees him as a promising addition who can develop into a first-team player in the near future.

Van den Berg has been highly regarded within PSV and was part of Peter Bosz’s senior squad, although he had not yet established himself as a regular first-team player.

The midfielder still had a contract with PSV until mid-2028 but has decided that a move abroad is the best next step for his development. PSV are expected to agree to the transfer if Celtic meet a fee of around €4 million.

The situation has moved quickly in recent days. Van den Berg was left out of Jong PSV’s squad amid the transfer developments, with Celtic now seemingly prepared to turn their long-standing interest into a concrete deal.

While Van den Berg could be heading for the exit, PSV are simultaneously working on another midfield addition.

The Eindhoven club are attempting to sign Ayoni Santos from Sparta Rotterdam and are still in talks with the Rotterdam club. Santos was left out of Sparta’s squad for Saturday’s match against Excelsior, with coach Rogier Meijer confirming the situation was related to “transfer fever.”

PSV have already seen an earlier bid for the 21-year-old rejected this month but have not abandoned their pursuit. An agreement still needs to be reached between all three parties.

PSV are also continuing negotiations for NEC winger Sami Ouaissa. The Dutch champions are prepared to pay more than €8 million for the 21-year-old, while Ouaissa has already accepted PSV’s offer. Discussions between the clubs remain ongoing.

At the same time, PSV are trying to bring Sam Lammers back to Eindhoven from FC Twente. That deal was still unresolved on Friday, with negotiations yet to produce an agreement.

There has already been movement between PSV and FC Twente in the opposite direction. Jordy Bawuah was sold to the Enschede club on Friday after the sides reached a verbal agreement, and the transfer is expected to be finalised on Monday.

For PSV, the coming days could therefore bring significant movement at both ends of the squad. Van den Berg’s potential €4 million departure could provide another boost to the club’s transfer budget, while Santos, Ouaissa and Lammers remain among the players being pursued as the window nears its conclusion.
